Building on Muddler's fine start, here's the New Rochelle, NY 250th Anniversary Commemorative released in 1938 - one of the final Early issues. Grading estimates appreciated as this is a raw one. Paleoguy

My views from a technical standpoint ...

Appears from here to be a typical fully lustrous MS example of a 15,266 net distribution coin.

The fields exhibit some (limited chatter) ... and the high points of the obverse (calf mid-section) and reverse (center of the Iris) show original planchet marks resulting from some strike weakness ... not to be confused with wear or handling damage.

My opinion is that a reputable TPG would grade this as MS64 or maybe MS65 ...

Excellent photo PG ... and a wonderful coin for your set.

Interesting to note the connections that appear throughout this series ...this is the second USA classic commemorative designed by Gertrude K. Lathrop ... you can see her boldy placed initials GKL on the obverse field at 4:00 ...

Ms. Lathrop also designed the 1936 Albany Half ... which features a Beaver on the obverse ...

Sooo ... fun trivia question that nobody except us commemorative folks will ever get right ...

Name the designer who has placed likeness of different animals on the obverse of two USA mint coins?

The answer of course is Gertrude.

Another one of my missing or wishing coins. Most of this design were well cared for and ms 64 seems to be where I would put this one. It is a great example that I would be proud to have.

And now - thanks to the fine segue from Nickel Searcher - it's time for a look at Gertrude's Beaver ! Pardon me in advance for the obvious. Gertrude had a live model for the obverse, graciously furnished by the State of NY Conservation Department. Beavers were an endangered species at that time due to the high demand for their fur. So now we know of two real critters used as models for our classic coins - Good ole Black Diamond for the Buffalo nickel and "Bucky" for the Albany Early Commemorative. As an aside, I hope the "Fatted Calf" in the New Rochelle Commemorative didn't suffer an ignoble fate. Paleoguy

p.s. Guess the grade on this one. (It's from a PCGS slab)...

I'll guess ms 64 for the Albany. I hope the Jaguar on the Connecticut was not in the office for it's rendition.

No fair ... I'm late checking in and muddler beat me to the correct answer. I was going to say MS64 on the Albany ... truly I was.

Nice coin again PG ... and yes we do enjoy Gertrude's example of the beaver.

I'm certain that you know the following ... but newcomers to the series would perhaps be interested in knowing that the 1936 Albany half dollar has (as far as I know) the smallest ever depiction of the legally required text LIBERTY of any USA coin ever minted.

Look on the reverse above the three standing figures handing off the Albany City Charter ... observe the bird above them ... look above the bird and below the "CH" in the legend ... there you will find the smallest LIBERTY that I know of on a USA coin.

Gotta love the classic US silver commemorative set for interesting and fun things.

I say Gertrude had a great sense of style ... too bad she only had a chance to design two of these coins ... who knows what she would have come up with next?
