fyi... there is one canadian penny that is falling in price... it's the 2006 One Cent no P no Logo Magnetic. At first no one knew these existed, but now everyone is looking for them & finding them. It started out rare, but more & more are being found and graded, so the price is falling. A guy just wrote that he found one of these in Ohio.

Well, one of the very elusive 2006P non-magnetic cents is up for sale on ebay. Since there are few sales recorded, it will be hard to say if it is increasing or decreasing in value. But with 5 days to go in the auction, the price is already at a very healthy level. And it is "only" an MS64..........

coincollector1,

I would stay away from pennies if you're trying to make money. Even the 2006P nonmagnetic penny seems like a trap to me. Whose to say that there won't be an entire roll of these found next week...?

If you're looking for a place to invest, I would buy key date Canadian and Newfoundland coins from the Victorian period.

Note that there are a few points to remember here:

1. Historically, most people who invest in coins end up losing money.
2. The perfect time to sell your coin might have been the day before you bought it. Don't think you can beat the system, because intelligent coin investors know what to avoid.
3. The surest way to lose money is to neglect your investment. Knowledge is everything, and invest time into your collection.

Here are some 1-cent coins that I have never lost money on:

- 1861 and 1864 Nova Scotia Half Cents, AU or better grades.
- 1884 Obverse 1, F or better grades
- 1907H cent, AU or better grades
- 1925 cent, EF or better grades
- 1929 High 9, AU or better, preferably with lustre
- 1948 A to SMALL denticles, mint state grades
- 1953 Shoulder Fold, MS-63 or better, FULL RED
- 1955 No Shoulder Fold, EF or better with decent eye-appeal

Avoid corrosion of any kind and carbon spots on mint state coins. Think of eye-appeal when investing, if you think a coin is beautiful, someone else will also. Good luck!
