In the early 70's I was a kid working on my Lincoln collection, mostly by hunting rolls. My dad found someone who had a Whitman folder with some old cents in it and bought it for me, paying a couple of bucks. In it was this 1914D. The coin has no eye appeal, funny color and lots of deep nicks. How would you grade it? Comments on the color? Does it have verdigris? Thanks! Mark Edited by IowaHawkeye 09/06/2011 7:58 pm

VF-30 details, too bad about the damage but....hey...it's a 1914D! It appears to be genuine is the bonus. I don't see any verdigris, just some discoloration. It's not as bad as many problem 14-D's I've seen, in fact, it's pretty darn good.

with that. The coin has character Mark ... damaged as it is ... I see no signs of corrosion ... just a tough life in circulation. I would cherish your 1914-D as a gift from Dad. David

Mark, that's for good info... verdigris can spread from one coin to another, so it's a CTD Coin Transmitted Disease

That's a high grade Lincoln that would be worth BIG bucks if it wasn't banged up and discolored.
Whats the red, (other than envirnomental damage) and can it be removed without harsh cleaning?

I agree VF details, but marked down a grade for the damage. Possibly two grades, because it might be hard to sell this coin at a "F" price due to all the damage. If only coins can talk- this one must have a lot of stories to tell- being run over by a truck, kick along the curb, etc.

Thanks for the inputs!
Sounds like the coin is in better shape than I thought it was. I had thought the problems were overwhelming...
Did not matter to much, as, not for sale.
