So you don't have any issue with them labeling coins as from a specific set that could have come from anywhere? I have MANY ASE's I bought months ago that I could get a 25th Annie Set label on...

My neighbor just bought an RP and an S on ebay 'cuz he missed out on the Mint sale. So now he can make up his own "set" from coins he has in his collection?

Tell me you really don't believe that....

From 1965-1967 nickels were minted at all three mints, but were not given mintmarks. Does anyone collect these nickels by where they were minted? Would you pay extra for a 1965 nickel in a plastic box that says "Minted at Denver"?

If he's got all 5 of the coins from the set, what difference does it make? They're completely fungible.

Sorry for the rant but I just realized where you were coming from. Since you think all labels and TPG's are bogus this would most definitely fit right in with your ideas. It definitely confirms your theory for ANACS.

For the record, I also think that FS and ER are bogus concepts. I do think that having a coin numerically graded by a reputable company makes it easier to sell in the future if you so desire.

I also believe that whatever a company puts on a label should be true. Having a collector submit unopened boxes at least makes the 25th Annie Set label real (whether or not you agree that it's worth a premium or not).

Some labels do have value whether YOU believe in them or not:

MP, This has been brought up previously in this thread. There are a couple of options;

a. Contact the Mint and they will want you to return the whole set for a refund. There more than likely will not be a replacement set sent to you.

2. Keep it and be glad that you got one of 100,000.

c. There are sets being broken up on ebay so people can have a more desirable set, you will probably pay dearly for it.

4. (next response)

I seriously doubt that loose coins sent to ANACS will actually come back with the word "set" on the label, no matter what a person on the phone said. I bet that if you have ANACS grade your coins you will get two 25th anniversary set coins and three 25th anniversary coins. HSN did deliver sealed boxes to ANACS for grading (and labeling with their exclusive FDOI labels) but ANACS is not accepting sealed sets from individual customers. If you are going to ANACS to save money to put slabbed coins in your collection that's fine but if you are trying to increase profits it is probably not the way to go. If you compare ANACS to NGC, the extra $7 gets you both coins that will almost certainly have a higher resale value (especially any 70s) and FS labels (if they get to NGC before the cutoff). After the NGC cutoff, PCGS is actually cheaper for non FS coins than NGC is for non ER coins. PCGS will continue to sell the FS labels virtually forever so if you sit on sealed boxes you will still have that choice years from now. It will be a while before we find out for sure what ANACS is really going to do but since they could get into real trouble by putting "set" on labels for loose coins I really don't see it happening. They are currently quoting about two week turn for modern submissions. PCGS & NGC turnarounds are at about three or four weeks but that may go out more if a lot of coins hit. There is also no way that ANACS could put the (S) on bullion coins that come in loose, only HSN (and other large customers if they have any) will get that.

I have decided not to send any of my coins in for grading at this time and probably won't ever do it. I can grade these coins as good as any of the "experts" can and I don't want my coins in slabs in my collection. Maybe I'll just open one box for each of the next five Christmases.

If there was a way to be sure where some of the 1965 through 1967 coins came from, the ones that would fetch a premium today would be the SF coins to some extent but mainly the ones that were minted at West Point. In fact, the very small mintages of some of those coins at some of the branch mints is a big part of why the mint marks were not used in those years. The mint did not want to create any rarities as they were having trouble keeping up with the demand for circulating coins. I have no use for meaningless labels but the provenance of branch mint that struck a coin has real numismatic value, whether that provenance is guaranteed by a mint mark, or through some other traceable means, is not that important.

Michael Perkins:

You have a few options some of which were already mentioned

1) return the set for refund (not my choice)
2) keep the set as is (possible)
3) sell the set as is (possible)
4) sell the S and the RP (with good pics) and you will just about have enough to buy a replacement set (no guarantee that one will be any better)(probable) and have 3 nice extra coins

If that is your only set would lean towards #3 or 4

I shipped the sold set $30.30 USPS, thats alot more then I thought it'd be. Online I had a price of $25 online,
Heres what the $30.30 got me.
Jersey to Flordia
Insured for $900

Looking at alot of the people selling these on ebay, some
have never sold before or sold very few items, most just
bidders.

Many never bought a coin probably not even interested
in coin collecting. I guess this set is gonna be the
big thing for Christmas that everyone wants but you can
never find like many past years at Christmas time.

Wait until they see how much they have to pay
ebay and paypal plus offering free shipping which comes
out of the sellers pocket too.

Sure they will basically still be making 2X what
the set cost them, (If they sell for about $700)
but just saying they are going to be pretty shocked
to see how much it costs to sell on ebay....

The cost is basically 12% (9% for ebay + 3% for ebay via PayPal) of total price realized (including any shipping charge) + shipping cost. All in all, it will cost about 15% (85% of the Final Price is your take home). IE: If you sell one for $722.5 on here is like selling for $850 on ebay. Cut out the middleman ( ebay) and both the buy and seller win.

Hey everyone, I'm not sure how selling works on this site but I would be willing to offer my two sets to CCF members for $750 each. Would anyone be interested?

CoinGuy, you would need to list them in Member CCF Sales,

http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/auction.asp

or you could use the "Buy It Now".

Well I did not hesitate for a second on opening my set. I bought 1 set, and I got it because I collect and I wanted to admire it, not let it sit in a brown box for my heirs to open or sell. Coins are made to be admired not sent to eternal darkness of a SDB or safe. But, that's just my opinion. Congrats to all that got one!
