Just moved into the new house and as a part of setting-up the office, I went through some of my raw coins . About 5 years ago I picked this piece up and I remember it being dirty, but definitely lacking color. I put it in an old yellow 2x2 envelope and promptly forgot about it. Looks like it acquired some nice toning over the years.

Beautifull, weak strike, but close from unc :)
BTW, do you ever clean coins when they look dirty ?

I'll post a cob tomorrow, which was just a bit cleaned in water and came from metal detecting (I suppose) - with lots of oxidation.
I was wondering what to do with it. (no, I don't want to make it bright white :p)

I just give them an acetone soak. That usually takes care of any grime adhering to the surface without touching the actual patina. Looking forward to seeing your pics of the cob.

OK, thought there was some magic potion depending on the metal / visual aspect :)
A US coin dealer I know from ages told me that it was the best way (I was like 12 then, and told him I had cleaned some coins with baking soda ... :p)
I posted my coin in another thread - I don't want to kill your thread as I did with the half real one by posting my 1/4 reales ... :D

You must be buying too many eights - you're getting them confused :-> Was just cleaning out my ebay watch lists, came across this piece... beginning of August.

Very nice piece, BTW... great strike for one of these.
