Hi everyone and thanks in advance for your help.

I've found (what I believe to be) a Morgan 1879 reverse of 1878. I don't know anything about coins and am not a collector. I am wondering if someone could advise me on what I should do with the coin? Is there a special way of handling or storing the coin?

Thanks again, Gloria

We have many morgan experts here who will be along to help you, but to save some of your time you should post some pictures.

I can't upload a pic here but put them on photobucket. They aren't very good images though.

I blew up the pictures as much as I possibly could but was even though it looks like it could be I am not 100% sure that its a reverse of 78 , but these things aren't really all that uncommon and can be found in pretty high grades, yours looks to be around XF or so. If it were mine I would just put it in an airtite or a album or how ever you have been storing it, if it were a higher grade it may be worth sending off for grading but you would be spending more on getting it slabbed than the coin is actually worth so one of the other options woud be what I would do if it were mine

Thanks! Is a regular photo album ok? Or a baggie? I uploaded bigger pics.

I do believe that is a reverse of 78. I have some of my coins in baggies and they do just fine.

Gloria,

The reverse appears to be a Rev of 78 to me as well as evidenced by the Eagles sunken chest and the corresponding arrow fletch missing from the bottom arrow.

Its a nice circulated coin with good eye appeal. May be in the AU range. Its definitely in the XF range.

Glad to have you as part of the forum.
