Hey guys, I was thinking about going to Etobicoke, ON to attend a one day workshop featuring a few of Canada's great coin experts like Brian Cornwell. Has anyone ever attended a workshop like this before? Is it worth the $110.00 + travelling expenses? If anyone has the latest copy of CCN(Vol 49, No 12), it's on p.17 of that issue.

I've always wanted to take this course, but haven't made the journey to ON for it yet. In my opinion, it is definitely reasonably priced. It would be interesting to hear from someone who has taken the course though.

What are the dates of this workshop?

Here is a link to the course: http://www.rcna.ca/toronto.phpNote it is only $75 for RCNA members, so you can join the organization first (you can put me down as a sponsor if you like!).

I attended one of the courses a couple years ago. It was the beginner course(I understand there are 2). I thought it was great. You get to grade about 150 coins if you are quick enough. You pass the coins around the room, write down your grade in the manual provided and then discuss the coins and the grades. You can also bring some of your coins to ask questions about and see if the other people agree with the grade ect.. There is also a manual dealing with counterfeit coins. The manual provides big close up pics and helps you spot fake coins in the future. They also talk about paper money. For me the course was great. The instructors are very good. There are also some pleasant suprises that I wont reveal. Money well spent. I hope this helps

Four of us are making the trip down from Ottawa. I spoke with the course organizer and they need two more people to make it a 'go'... anyone else from the GTA thinking of going?

The workshop is very much worth the time and money. One of the key features is one-on-one tme with the instructors.
Bring your own coins (be reasonable) and get hands on feedback either from Brian or Scott Cornwell and Susan Maltby.
You even get a chance to play with a blow torch... If you don't understand the connection (no its not a new way to get coins out of those hard slabs) then attend and see.
Saturday, November 12th; we still have spots available.
Though not advertised - we will have a display of Canadian error coins for you to look at and ask question about during the break if you want.

Conversation today in my house. I ask wife who is having a birthday soon. "would you like to fly to TO for the Remembrance Day weekend?" "Is there a coin show that weekend?" says she. "No, but there is a one day course." "No thanks", she says,"but you should go if you want."

Yes, you should...
Most of the active Canadian coin dealers around the GTA have taken it. This is the 7th time they are offering it and they are struggling to get enough people. This might be the last one, for a while, mostly due to local demand.

If attendance is a problem, perhaps they should do as DBM suggests and move it West. I know of a little city right near the Rockies....but still on the East side!
