To my admittedly untrained eye, I am leaning toward MS-63. I'm not a huge fan of toned coins, but this one looks okay to me for its age and travels..... what say you ? Should this one go into the Dansco album ?

I think it is a MS-63.

I'd have to go 61 or 62, IMHO, it appears spotty as if exposed to something, perhaps a liquid. Maybe a dip?

I don't think it was dipped, but I'll need to get it out and get it under good magnification to make a decision. thanks for the opinions - it is appreciated.

MS-63 seems reasonable for this coin a few issues but nothing too distracting
Rest in Peace

MS-62, that mark is really distracting, may even get a details grade because of it. Depends if its really that obvious in hand, though.

All the spots and the huge mark on the cheek. seems MS60 or 61 to me.

Also the nose and the bottom of the neck have many unpleasant marks. That combined with the strange coloring and the spots drops the coin a few notches IMO.

So yes ms60 61 at best.

Fix up that cut across the cheek and it's a technical gem in my book. The market graders will take it down for that cut, though.

Absent the cheek mark, this one is a slam dunk for MS-64 very nice luster and the surface spotting is trivial and not distracting could easily be removed with a dip probably just some film from contact with the edge of the mint bag. What will hurt a grade is dark carbon spots on the surface but on this coin I don't see any.

Well, that's encouraging. Thanks to all that responded. I was ready to go with MS 62 or 63, but after further examination I'm thinking she might just go MS 64.....

My reasoning ? The "gash" across her cheek in the first photo is actually not on the coin - it must've been a mark on the holder that I did not notice when taking the photo, and is not visible to me now. As a matter of fact, the only small bag mark I can find on her is on the lower portion of her throat, and even that is barely visible. The surface spotting is not nearly as pronounced as it appears in the photo, either. The reverse is even more pleasing with strong details and good luster.

Guess I need to liberate her from the holder (with gloves, of course) and get some better photos....these pics just don't do her justice.

Thanks one and all for the knowledgable opinions.

Here's a PCGS MS-66 with very original surfaces for comparison:

Okay, I carefully liberated her from the holder (with gloves) and wiped her off with a very soft micro-fiber cloth for some better photos.....this is how she really looks :

I think I'm going to go with MS 64, based on what I'm seeing now that she's out of the holder. There are a few tiny bag marks to the left of her nose, but they are so small they don't really detract from the overall appearance.

I think she's definitely a keeper - what say you ?

That doesn't sound good.

Any hairline scratches?

None that I can see, even at magnification....just a few bag marks here and there.

I was very gentle with her. Today's photos reveal a much different coin outside the holder.

Without that mark, this coin would be a easy 64.
