I received this 1884-CC GSA Morgan last year for Christmas. It has not been professionally graded. I would love to get some feedback on what you all think it grades. Thanks

Jim, I would give it a MS62-MS63 and the reverse is 64 or a little higher. The only thing That I would worry about would be the deep hit behind the eye.Quit a number of chatter marks on the cheek area but the fields are fairly clean.

Glad you posted this Jim. I have several of these GSA Morgans that I inherited from my Mother. I even have two 1884s. One has more marks than yours and one looks just like yours on both sides. I was going to get them graded, but my dealer said neither would go over MS60. He told me they would be worth more to just keep them in the GSA holders. I was surprised as I thought maybe MS63 or better. Are you going to get yours graded? Which service?

Okie,
I probably will get this GSA graded and when I do it will be by NGC since they grade them and leave them in the original GSA holder. PCGS will crack them out and put them in there slab.
In my humble opinion, this GSA and your GSA's that are similar to this one definitely grade higher than MS60.
Thanks for the input Terry and Okie

firts off I like the Name , second I would agree with TLS5933 Except I would add that the reverse shows some Fost ( CAmeo) which I don't think Really matters because it's not on the Obverse as well, and I would give the reverse a MS_65- 66. A New Die on The reverse as compared to the Obverse , and great choice on the NGC keep it original. And Great Photos by the way , I truley believe by your photos I would be able to grade or attribute them reasonably close

Thanks Jim, It is a cool name if I do say so myself. The eagle is definitely frosty. I need to look at the reverse a little closer. It never once crossed my mind that it was 65+. In all honesty though I don't think the reverse would grade MS66.
Thank you for the compliments on the pics. I would like for them to be clearer and for my finger and camera to not be reflecting off of the GSA case.

JImR your Profile says you are 12 That can't be, and I had an ARmy Buddy from Macon And I spent alot of time in Savanha, Georgia as well as Columbus and Atlanta . I only see a few small marks on the reverse and only in the fields I do see some some of the devices have some Rub It only looks like that is throught the frost though and not the surface. And unfortunately Your reverse could be MS-70 and It would Not help you. In The case of such complex coins like the Morgan , I think the standards should be Different . Grade the Obverse/reverse and come up with a net Grade . for example Obv. Ms64- Rev-MS67 = MS-65

I wouldn't spend the money to get this coin graded, even if you are planning on selling it. With that cheek, the coin would be lucky to get a 63 which would not add to its' value.........your just out the grading fee. Besides, I think it's way cool just the way it is.

The obverse looks to be in the low MS-60 range and likely not any greater than a 62. The reverse looks MS 64. However, the obverse grade is normally more important than the reverse. I would say overall an MS-62 or MS-63.
Keep it in the GSA holder since the GSA CC Morgans are collectable items by themselves.

Easy 63, shot at 64 from a TPG. These are plentiful - combined PCGS/NGC pop over MS63 is almost 30,000, so the grade will come easy for the coin. Strictly graded? MS62. The reverse is wonderful, but the low side grades the coin, and that's the universal standard.

Thanks guys for the input. When my Dad bought this GSA and few others the dealer said he thought they graded between the MS62-MS63 range. I personally agree that the grade would come back at MS62 and maybe 63. The reverse is in real good shape and I wish the obverse was in the same condition.
Jim, Thank you for bringing the DOB error to my attention. My correct DOB is 8/19/70.

I will go along with the MS-63 or 64 grade also. If you were to ever decide to get any GSA graded I would always go with NGC over any other TPG because they leave them in the Government holder and not crack them out like the rest. Oh and my D.O.B. is 1/5/70

JimR, This is a beautiful coin and should grade MS-63. Great color and detail. The dealer seemed to be very accurate, a trait that is hard to come by these days.
