I just received my large cent album from wizard coin supply today. Just going to inform anyone who wants to buy it that the all the holes are the size of the early large cents so any one after 1839 is going to be loose in its slot. Example: Does anyone else have this same issue?

I believe it is common because those coins are struck without a collar, which means the final size has a wide variance. Dansco sized the hole to fit the largest of these coins. Better to be too loose (and easily shimmed) than too tight.

That is true. What would you shim it with? Little bit of paper?

I would use 2x2 cardboard, or slivers from a nonPVC flip.

I agree, cardboard from a 2x2 works best. Cut off a sliver with a utility knife.

I'm surprised albums don't use the foam technique from air-tites. You wouldn't have to worry about too loose or too tight holes or coins that vary in size.

That's funny, I have the exact opposite problem in my Dansco 7070. My 1855 fits just fine, but the 1826 is loose!

That is odd. Typically the post 1836 pieces fit fine and it is the earlier coins that you have problems with. After 1836 all the cents are the same in diameter.

I only have two large cents in my 7070 (1833 and 1847). Both are loose. You may be able to see it in this photo.

The braided hair large censt should all be the same diameter. My braided hair in my 7070 fits perfectly. The holes in this album are the same size from 1793-1857. I would have thought they would make them smaller for the diameter change. I guess I'll just have to live with it though. I stuck a little piece of paper in the gap and it doesn't move anymore. I wouldnt think it would hurt a brown large cent. The 2x2 cardboard was too awkward and tedious for me.
I just expected more from dansco. But I cant do anything about it now.

Dansco needs to address this issue. They only give lip service.

Littleton albums are sized the same way. You'll have to make some spacers if you want the coins tight in the slots.

Just one more of the reasons I stick to Whitman. I have the Large Cent Whitman Album and every coin fits. No loose coins. No empty slots on the last page. No need to go nuts trying to get the slides out. Whitman has slots at the end of the page to grab the plastic slides. It appears Dansco doen't care about planning, must selling. I'll stick to Whitman.

Quote: Dansco needs to address this issue. They only give lip service. Again, the coins not being struck in collar means their diameter varies. Suppose you get your wish and they solve the problem for the loose ones by making the holes smaller. What then will you do for the ones that will not fit the undersized holes?
