This is probably a stupid question, but I recently bought some cardboard 2x2's and I have been putting coins in them and stapling them shut. Well, I'm anal, probably like 99% of you, so I started to get really bothered because the staples are rubbing against the other 2x2's and everything is starting to look like crap.
My question is has anybody in here ever used a glue adhesive on a cardboard 2x2 and if so which adhesive would you recommend? I know they make self adhesive 2x2's but I don't feel like shelling out the money for those when I already have the non-adhesive variety.
Thank you, Newbie Doug

there was some discussion about using tape along the edges. I think you may just need to flatten the staples with pliers or get a stapler that makes them flat.

Just dump the staple covers and bite the bullet and get the self adhesive 2x2's. To save one nasty scratch on one of your favourite coins is worth the expense. The self adhesive ones are easier to use anyway. The staple jobbies are dangerous to other coins and are just plain ugly

I still use staples on my 2x2's, but I do like the pull-tab on the self-adhesive ones.

All the coins I have bought recently (Mercs mostly) are in the cardboard 2X2's. Is cardboard not susceptible to moisture though? I was worried if I should leave mine in them or not.

especially when you know how to print on them. I have no idea how you did that great job weavus. Imagine how lousy that would have looked with a few rusty staples arround it

For my nicer stuff (worth going in a binder) I use self-seal too. So much cleaner.
Great labeling there Weavus! Care to share the method.
I bought a different brand of nickle size recently for my three pence collection and I wasn't that happy but they still worked.
No gloves, too sticky :) So bare handling is a bit harder.
All in all I won't go back to staples.

the labeling is not really that difficult. First, they are labels that I apply, I'm not able to actually print on the 2x2. I use an Avery label 2/3 x 1 3/4 (Avery # 8195). I then use the online template service on avery.com. I create the template so that the country and year are 'up' and the rest of the data is 'upside down. I then put it on the 2x2 and folder over making the backside 'right-side' up. you saw the obverse. Here is the reverse: It may take a time or two to get the layout you want but once you have it, you can repeat it. I typically do a full sheet (60 labels) at a time so as to not waste labels (because it is a bit tricky to use a partial page of labels). It outputs in pdf and then you print on the label sheets. I would go and play with it over at avery.com. it is free. I think you have to give them your email but registration is free.

I just use pliers and flatten the staples. It really doesn't take much time. I have 2X2's in boxes and in binders. They fit nicely.

Keep in mind that you are not applying glue to cardboard.
My 2x2s are cardboard on the outside, and the inside is 100% covered with plastic (mylar?).
So if you're thinking of common glues that might stick cardboard to cardboard, think again! You're trying to stick mylar to mylar! Common school glue might not work.
On top of that, you want something that doesn't seep chemicals or outgas or otherwise affect the mylar or the coin.
I just thought I'd point out that we're not simply gluing cardboard here,

I just bought another few hundred self adhesive 2x2's. They worked ot at about 25 cents each. As far as I am concerned that is cheap protection for my coins

I can get the staple ones from the same suppier for about 18 cents. I think the extra 7 cents is a worthwhile expense

Everything coin related in Aus is a lot more expensive than in the US. There ar a lot less collectors so the sales on numistic items would be a lot less than over there
