Ok. What's Going On With This 1938-S Wheat?

Here's the best pics out of the 30+ that I took of the coin. What the heck is going on with the reverse?

I can understand the weak "pluri" because of the shoulder on the obverse. But what would cause the vertical line?

I haven't had an eye-exam in almost 10 years...but I'm pretty sure it's not my eyes playing tricks.

The vertical line is caused by damage to the die that minted the coin. For some unknown reason this is common on late-30s Lincoln reverses.

Could it be feeder arm damage? It seems similar to the anomalies seen in later years, but in a different direction.
