I found this 1963 penny while going through some rolls. At first I just thought it was PMD but it looked cool so I tossed it aside. I looked closer at it later and noticed that 1) the "cuts" dont end in flat edges the way it would if it were clipped by a tool, they are actually raised beads. 2) the clipped areas are far too consistent to be done by hand. 3) the denticles can be seen on the edge where the missing rim should be

All in all it is a very neat penny to look at

It is interesting. How does it compare in weight to an average penny?

Sorry its not as good quality, my camera isn't as good as the one used for the other pictures. It isn't actually as rough as it looks on the edges.

I havent had a chance to weigh it yet but since the entire rim is missing I'm sure it will be quite a bit less than a regular.

The obverse picture isn't the best quality as you mentioned however I do believe this to be a man made error. In my opinion, something was placed on the reverse side of this coin and struck with great pressure causing the gouging effect along the rim. Maybe something like a socket from a socket kit. (Only a guess)
Anyone else care to take a guess?

If you can see it on the second picture, the ridge along the center is actually scalloped out. It goes out in a V shape on the side, curving in and then back out like crown molding, which is why although I thought the same thing in the beginning it would have to have been "punched" for lack of a better word, from both sides

I agree, its got to be PMD, I fail to see how this could be caused by the mint process..

It looks molded to me, and a strange texture and colour too. It's also shaped like our older nickels (sided) Was someone just having fun in a jewelry workshop maybe? (I used to make jewelry molds and that photo reminds me of when I first took jewelry from the mold after the metal casting part and before I cleaned the surfaces and edges up with tools)

Clipped by some fancy trimmers... or maybe pinched with something HOT?
