Funny thing about that. Part of the story is that the coin was in the unnamed Congressman's pocket and it fell out, Toven retrieved it and attempted to give it back but the Congressman told him to keep it. It is also worth noting that it has since been regraded MS-62 by PCGS, so much for ICG being a liberal grader The coin is still owned by the Toven family and the Secret Service has made no attempt to seize it. However, any attempt to auction/sell it would probably garner their attention.

I betcha that coin was rubbed with mercury. I used to do that when I was a kid.

The mercury forms an amalgum type of alloy with the copper surface.

I would NEVER do that now. Then, I had no idea the mercury was a cumulative poison, which accumulates in the fat tissues of the body to stay there, semi permanently. That is scary.

Then, I never even used rubber gloves!
