Acid treated, biggest tells are the relative strength of the strike and lack of a rim.

Certainly looks like an acid job!

I have a 1965 British penny in uncirculated which is 30% underweight. It has a bit of a story attached to it. I will repeat it here.

The coin was one of the last to be produced in Tower Hill in London. A lot of mint workers were about to loose their jobs, so quite a lot of 'mint sporting' went on as a form of protest, and all sorts of weird coins were produced for a short period.

These coins were gathered and thrown by the handful over the boundary walls, to be picked up by anonymous passers by in the surrounding streets.

My penny is part of that production, and for that reason, although it may be rare, I seriously doubt that it would be unique.
