Jim1953 Pillar of the Community United States 2600 Posts	Posted 12/18/2006 7:59 pm I went to a coin auction over the weekend and everything went about as expected until all of a sudden a 1921 Morgan went for $105.00. No it was not anywhere near mint condition and yes there were three or four bidders on the coin. I don't thing these were all rookies and now I am trying to figure out what I missed. My books do not show me anything that should make this coin that price. Any thoughts, anyone? Jim Report this Post to the Staff

SsuperDdave Moderator United States 23522 Posts	Posted 12/18/2006 8:19 pm Two possibilities: One, it was an important VAM (variations of Morgans as described by Leroy Va Allen and A. George Mallis. I can name a half a dozen or so 1921 VAM's which might command over $100 in circulated condition. Two, a couple of newbies got Auction Fever. My money's on the latter. Report this Post to the Staff

It seems everytime I see some and think that I just might get a deal along come some people that think because the coins are old, they must be worth a fortune and bid them up to rediculous amounts.
