Well today my dad bought me a few more coins. A jar of decimal coins. I found this 1981 half claw. The obverse seems pretty much unc but the reverse seems to have abit of grease on it. Thoughts? Am I right about the obverse being unc or not?

I also found a 1981 50c aunc - unc, a 1969 50c Aunc, 1 1982 20c aUnc, 1 1982 20c Unc and a 1981 20c half claw Aunc.

Hi aarong.
From what I've read grading can be very subjective. What one persons sees as AUNC could be someone elses version of VF. Also I don't think a photo would be the best way to grade. Might show to much or to little detail. Best to save them up and take them to a dealer to grade I think.

Nice half claw in the pic

Between $2-$10 dollars I'd say.
In my copy of Fred Levers varity and error coins it says you would expect to pay $10 for a true half claw (with curved text)and $2 for half 4th claw/short first claw graded EF. BUT I guess it's worth what someone is willing to pay you for it?
Hope that helps a bit

Has anyone noticed the mark on the platypus near the small claws? I found around 10 of these the other day and a few of them have this same mark in or around the same area. It looks like a small part of the rim of a coin has been imprinted there.

hi mate I just had a look at the coin, I would grade it as aUnc and I dont not think it is a true halfclaw so you might get a few dollars on ebay.

I thought that the half claw was the mint mark for Wales.
Is there another type of half claw?
Does anybody know what the mintage numbers were on these?
