Thanks BadThad, any photographic suggestions? I have been using an AGFA 8X Lupe with my digital camera (Digimax Cyber 530) on macro setting, placed directly on it, using evening sunlight.

Only suggestion, ditch the sun and buy a full spectrum desklamp with a good reticulating arm. Why do you use a loupe if you have a macro mode? If possible, use a little optical zoom to keep the camera away from the coin (so you don't block the light).

My hands are pretty shaky at times, and I use the lupe to rest my camera on for stability. I probably ought to break down and get a decent camera for my copy stand. I find myself in the pictures (there's waldo) when I try to free hand it alot, especially reflections in the slab. Thanks!

If you can find a used one, I like my Canon SD700IS. Plenty of resolution for coins, image stablization and it lets you use optical zoom (up to 4x) in macro mode. I looked about a year ago and saw some used ones in the $70-100 range.
I also have a newer SD880IS but it won't zoom in macro mode, so I don't use it for coins even though, technically, it's a better camera. On that cam, if I want to zoom, I have to put it in regular mode, zoom and then switch to macro mode where the zoom stays locked. I HATE IT! lol

The pics are too dark to determine how many minor imperfections there are and to observe how good the strike is.
It does appear to be an SMS coin and you said NGC, so I'll go MS-67 as well. PCGS would have been tougher on this one IMO with an MS-66.

I am not convinced it is a special mint set specimen but I think it is an unusually well struck full step MS67 nickel. A dandy I must say!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think NGC ever certified a full step 1967 nickel that wasn't SMS. Then again, the pic isn't good enough to confirm FS
