It's not a doubled die. I always think of it as Machine Doubling (and it's not) but I think it is officially die deteriation. Just not sure what makes it occur but would like to hear an explanation of why it happens.

Die deteriation always shows in the direction of the rim.

Not ALWAYS - but most of the time. And that's what this coin is.

So help me understand what has happened to the die at this point. As it wears, do these "doubling effects" appear on the die itself or is there still some movement like in MD but on a worn out die? Or something else?
