I'm literally in my first week or so of learning to properly photograph coins, so this is the best I have right now:

Nice dime photo. Practice makes perfect(Well... not for me I'm still far from it.) I have been taking photos of coins for years now and it all depends on what you are trying to get out of the photo. Sometimes I want to highlight the detail, or get a photo with the sun shining off the coin, or make the coin look old, highlight the tone,or bring out the varieties with up close photos. I don't think everyone will like all my photos but its fun and sometimes I get a little bored with a coin type so I go to another type or country. Every year is different in the Coin World for me and I learn more. 10 yrs from now I'll still be a beginner have the same enthusiasm about coins as when I first started. Its great to see others having fun with the greatest hobby and you also pick up other skills also like being an amateur photographer(I'm sure we enhance our computer skills too).

Coins are probably the most challenging subjects I have ever photographed. The composition is pretty basic, but the lighting seems to be my biggest challenge. Here is a Civil War Token I picked up recently, (a Fuld 79/351). I bought it because of the blue toning, now to show that in a picture took some experiementing.

you can take 10 pics of 1 coin, and they can all come out differently... But patience is a virtue

Penny Guy: Interesting circumferential die crack obverse, around the 7 O' the clock area! And really nice condition, too!

here is a picture of a coin I got today, nothing special but I like the antique look. Nice wood-grain toning on the LWC.
