Well, it's not exactly "new" new but it's the first Type I Standing Liberty quarter I have had the pleasure of owning. I got it at a coin show today and it's a nice PCGS VF-30. It's coming out of the slab and going into my Dansco 7070 album. I'll tape the paper label inside the front cover, have to save those paper labels from the slabs. All I need to have all of the quarters in the album is the No Motto Seated Liberty 1838-60. I have a small deposit on an XF 1838 Reeded Edge Capped Bust half for this type set which I'll pick up on November 6th. Ed ANA LM-3175

I like the coin, but for the 7070 I might have gone a little higher in quality to fill that slot. Think of how much you're gonna have to spend to fill some of those other slots like anything drapped bust or your 20 cent piece. You could have spent over $100 on an SLQ and gotten something nicer.

Circulated Standing Liberty quarters are one of my favorite coins. It brings back the feelings I had as an early teen, holding my SLQ in a 2x2 and staring at it for hours, when I see a coin like this. And HESGUT, I think you should have chose a nicer avatar.

I know that whatever I do pay will be a bargain twenty some years from now if/when I ever decide to sell the set. For now this coin fits in this page perfectly. Ed ANA LM-3175

I think it is a very nice SLQ Ed, and will look just fine in your 7070. One of the nicest looking coins made IMHO.

That coin has a lot of eye appeal. I think it is a very very nice problem free coin

That is a nice looking coin. I'm a lousy grader of coins but that sure looks more than the VF-30 they say it is.

Nice coin you have! If you are happy with it and the price you paid for it, then that is what matters, not what someone else would have done.

Quote: And HESGUT, I think you should have chose a nicer avatar. Although the shot was at me, I thought this was pretty funny. Actually, my avatar looks almost identical to the coin in question....my avatar might actually grade lower. As far as my earlier point, I was merely stating my opinion that it was an odd choice for the 7070, I agree its a very nice coin. If this was a lower budget set I'd understand, but the OP indicated that it wasn't. There would be better representations of the type 1 SLQ for significantly less money than what he would have spent on other coins for the set. Many 7070 collectors choose to have all 20th century in BU. I was also slightly puzzled by the choice to buy this coin slabbed...it's never faked and may have just cost an additional $20 just to be broken out. My opinion is not a reflection of the OP as a person nor is it a disdainful dislike of the coin, which happens to be part of my favorite series. I thought that's what these threads were for, to discuss things....not have 10 different posters say "nice coin"

At the coin show I was at yesterday I looked at three other supposedly VF 1917 Type I quarters and this was the only one that was pleasing to the eye and without problems. It also matches by grade the 1924 Type II SLQ next to it. I bought it from a dealer I have bought other pieces for my BU type sets I am working on. The 19th and 20th Century type sets are mounted in the Capital Plastics #460A and B holders. The 460B is the older style for the 20th Century which does not include the State Quarters. This set I completed in March of this year and the SLQ in it is a 1920 MS-63FH. This 7070 set is a circulated set and at this point only two coins are BU which may not stay in by the time I'm done with it. They are 1943 steel Lincoln Cent and a 1943-S Jefferson wartime nickel. The coins in the in the 460A holder are at least MS-62 for the BU pieces and there will be about four or five which are price prohibitive and will be no less than AU. I have a guy holding a 2 cent piece and an 1875-CC Seated Liberty dime both MS-63 which I will probably acquire in the next week or so. Ed ANA LM-3175

My favorite coin. I am holding out (due to budget reasons) for a nice MS60 FH 1917 with good eye appeal. I'm not picky. MS60 is cool with me. I'm stuck with my lowly PCGS F12 1917 I got for $25 til then.
