I havent checked the Mercs yet, so many to go through. I am thinking the Kennedy halves are just junk silver, so would I price them according to their melt value or add a couple bucks to it? IE if the metal content in the War Nickels are 93 cents and the 40% Kennedy's are $2.43 currently, would asking 3-4 each be too much or too little? I don't recall seeing coins selling for exactly their melt values so that is the issue I am facing. I collect Capped Bust halves so all these other coins can get perplexing at times, so I have to do a lot of researching. Thanks again for the tips

I'm still waiting for silver to go up before I sell my junk bag. To me it doesn't seem like a good time to sell..

Sorry to break it to you, but getting melt for 40% silver may be the most you'll get on ebay. Any dealer you being then to, will probably pay only $2 each.

And maybe .75 for the nickels. Iam speaking from experience, that's how much I pay the dealers. I imagine that some dealers will pay that much as well.

Thanks Big Silver for the information. There are big 25 lb bags filled with silver quarters, War Nickels, and the Mercury dimes I mentioned. Do you know of any dates in particular I should keep an eye out for (besides the 1916 Merc)? The rest I guess I will have to sell close to melt value. A lot of coins to go through so it'll just take time. When I get around to it I'll post some pictures here to show everyone the hoard itself.

Also, for the 90% silver Kennedys, the Walking Liberty halves, the Ben Franklin halves, and the Ikes, what are reasonable prices to ask for each of those assuming they aren't any key dates etc? Melt value for those as well?

90% halves typically bring a slight bump over other junk silver in my neck of the woods, which happens to be Cleveland Browns country FYI. Seriously though, even Kennedy's get a slight premium over junk, for instance 12.8x vs 12.5x or the like. Franklin halves don't bring much of a premium above any half dollar premium. Walkers do get a little bit more. If junk was 12.5x and they were getting 12.8x on halves, you might pay 13.5 - 14x on walkers. 40% and 35% is always under melt even at retail around me. 40% Ikes are the exception with that fantastic eagle landing on the moon reverse. Those go for a premium above melt in OGP around me. As for selling them, sell them in groups. Group them so they are say at least $50 lots and ideally bigger. You are paying a flat fee to ship a lot, bigger sale price equals lesser shipping cost %. Same thing with ebay fees and paypal fees like the fixed $0.30 transaction fee for using paypal. Spread those fees, packaging costs, and shipping costs over a larger sale. You will make more money that way and do less work.

There are plenty of other semi-key dates. In Mercury dimes the 1921 and many other early mint marked ones. 1931 D and S for example. If course any date in uncirculated condition will be worth more and depending on the date could be worth much more. I see fun times ahead for you...

I haven't bought junk silver in a while, but I'd imagine the 90% will get you 13-16x face. My LCS told me he only pays 2x for 40%. I've had good luck selling 40 and War Nickels on ebay in the past.

Thank you guys.
Buckeye- We can get along for now despite you being a Browns fan haha. Anyway, I assume you are talking about 12.5 * face values etc? BigSilver- I'll keep an eye out for those as well and buy some books on them. I'm not really familiar with Mercs. CLS- So by the rate you mentioned for 90%ers, $6-8 for each Kennedy 90% would be reasonable? The 40%ers would probably fetch way less I assume.
