Quote: I keep my spending change in one pocket, and if I get change back it goes in a different pocket. Those are checked before joining the others
Quote: I embarrass everyone I am with by checking any and all change, by looking for change in vending machines (I've heard stories...) and by actually bending down to pick up a penny!
I've done all the above. Yes, sometimes I get strange looks. But, I'm use to that. amida17; Quote: Have not embarrassed myself but my daughter gets peeved because I check all my change before I hand it to a cashier. Vinnie, You would think she would be use to it by now. PS. Let her know Lisa & I say HELLO. You need to stop by.

Should have asked him, "Whats so weird with looking at money. Don't you do it every time you take bills out of your wallet?" If he doesn't get it then you can call him slow. :)

I think I'm impervious to coin-related embarrassment. My stock reply when I get weird looks at work for checking our change before it goes in our dispensers: "Hey, you never know what you're gonna find in here. Remember that Mercury dime you didn't find?" (A 1929, too--and a real beaut!)

Great story TJB17; that guy seems weird if he thinks you're looking through a coffee club change cup for returnable bottles! I get strange looks when I check the Coinstar machine reject slot at the local supermarket, kinda like 'look at the homeless guy'. Maybe I should dress a little better!

Oh yes, the looks I got when I first started taking in my boxes of half dollars would be wonderful if I could have taken a picture. Also, I am sure you all know the questions that follow.
Also, I tend to pick up pennies just about anywhere I find them. Sometimes you get the look of why are you picking up a penny. Sometimes I see this look and simply say I am a coin collector. Suddenly, everything is normal again and sometimes it can lead to others talking about old coins they have.

Yah ... I've been caught checkin' for change so often, that I merely become "Change-Raven" ...
=> yup, I get that intense look in my eyes, puff-up my jacket, strut inconsistently from side to side, cock my head back, and shriek
=> cacaaaaw, ca-ca-ca-caawwwwww!!
... nobody "ever" asks for their change back ...

I don't know how I'd feel about being compared to a person sorting garbage for cans. I certainly don't consider coins to be equal to refuse.
I do know people at work that consider pennies trash and think that I'm holding worse less items.

greenprint, glad you found a good way to deposit your coin. Happens to be the same way I deposit all my nickels and dimes/quarters if I search them. I don't have a good buy location for the dimes right now so I'm not getting many.

Quote: This isn't exactly a CRH story, but I wasn't sure where else to put it. I moved it to the Main Forum. This was too funny to only let the CRH crowd enjoy it.

I once spotted an old Wheat cent in a grocery store cash register while receiving my change and I politely asked the cashier if she could give it to me. She gave me that "you are a weirdo" look and fumbled through the register for a very awkward 30 seconds (while people were waiting behind me) until she finally found/understood what I wanted. I thanked her, got my bags and left. It was a common date 1956, but hey, I'll take it over a modern Lincoln Memorial any day.

Well worth the effort, in my opinion.

Im soon to have an embarrassing moment when I go back to my local CU to buy another $400 for CRH. I can tell they're going to start getting frustrated with me but, really, it's my money, give it to me how I like, right?

Absolutely nothing wrong with being weird (read - different). At least it makes you stand out from most people. My friends are all acquinted with my obsession (read - passion) for coins and notes and am often asked "Been through anybody's pockets recently?" Don't tone it down, just keep on doing what you do and to heck with anyone else's opinion.
