Me in Russia?....No, not a chance! Nor will my American dollars ever support the Russian gov't by visiting there but thanks for the invitation. You are invited here; to the land of the free and home of the brave.
Actually, you're the brave man here! There is no way in heck I would be on this forum broadcasting to the FSB or GRU about my coin collection if I was living in Moscow and thinking about moving to another country.
You mention cultural property, you mean state property? Your coin collection probably belongs to the state. Like I said, you're a brave man. You're not afraid of Putin's mafia breaking down your door in five minutes and confiscating your collection or whatever else they want? You come to America and I'll buy you a beer. Be safe my friend!

I'm down to visit Russia . My father is there right now actually, in St.Petersburg aka Leningrad. I might go with him next summer. He brings back a few Putin shirts every year, I get a lot of great stares in public haha.

My greatest fear for this hobby is that fear-mongers like USSID18 will gain credibility.

Lol about the limited perceptions on display about Russia.
I have read Gorbachev and Solzhenitsen and some horrible stuff unfolded over there but they are just people and half what you hear in Western media about them is misrepresentation.
Also their economic system allows personal property, its personal profiteering through financial ventures like employing people to work for you that is a no-no (though maybe thats changed/is changing?)
Anyway could you not post stuff out if you moved? If it isn't high value, do they check everything?

Most are locked up in safety deposit boxes so theft or fire isn't a real concern.
However a nasty hurricane is always on my mind this time of year.

My biggest coin collecting concern is that everyone on this forum will realize just how chintzy my collection is... If anyone breaks in to my house, they will need at least a half hour to find it.

There seems to be mounting opinions against collecting ancient coins. "Cultural heritage" and the like. It would be really unfortunate if legislation was passed mandating the "repatriation" of my collection....
There was a story a while ago about how a $1,000-5,000 coin was simply taken from a private collector/dealer because Greece wanted it "back".

HI all, My biggest fear is, My birthday is Aug 14, coming soon, I will take any old coins you want to send me for my birthday. I will be 66 and I will die one day, my wife has no real idea as to what my coins are worth. She will just spend them at face value. I have thought long and hard about who I might get to help her with all my collectibles, my daughter might be the best because she understands collecting. But my wife will over ride her. I will be dead and gone so I will not really know whats going on.

My greatest fear is that I will have spent all this time/money on collecting coins/bills and my sons/daughter or their children having no interest in the hobby. I have three children, two boys and a girl, and I hope having three increases my chances that at least one will continue to the legacy that my grandfather started. That is my greatest fear, that the love of the coins from three generations of my family will disappear.

Webster's definition of "fear" as a transitive and intransitive verb: to be afraid of or or apprehensive; expect with alarm.
I assume you are referring to the above definition.
My answer: I fear nothing except fear itself.
PS: I think I heard that from some one else so I'm not taking credit for it ;-)
