One of our local vendors (very large place) just informed they are making everyone work from home until 30 April 2020. This may cause delays, yadda yadda.

Our governor in Ohio just banned gatherings of 100 people or more and is shutting down the schools for 3 weeks. Doesn't look like there will be any coin shows in Ohio and I am in total agreement with these measures. A coin show isn't worth risking one's life by attending. If the situation in Northern Italy repeats itself in the U.S. it will be catastrophic and I doubt it will leave anyone's family unimpacted.

Ah, well. At this point I think it's a foregone conclusion that I won't be going to the show this year. But that's OK! Once I committed to that idea, I just went ahead and blew my entire yearly coin show budget to get a coin on ebay that was the last remaining "key issue" I've had my eye on:

Quote: In lieu of foregoing the show, you could also consider attending, but then going through a decontamination routine on your return home, to minimize any possible risk of infecting others. Clothes removed and into the laundry, and into the shower for you and your son. Disinfect any surfaces you've touched between entry into the house and the shower. This all sounds good but you forgot one major step: Don't forget to clean all the coins you buy at the show!

Saw a post on another coin forum that the Central States Coin Show on April 22-25 in Chicago has been cancelled.
I think this is the right call due to the scale of the calamity we face in the coming months, the scope of which we are only starting to realize. The coins are not going anywhere and will be available when this pandemic clears.
Hope that all other show promoters in the U.S. will do the right thing and cancel or postpone. If folks are genuinely worried about the health of numismatics (i.e. Is coin collecting dying out?) we cannot afford to have large gatherings of vulnerable, elderly persons at the present time.

Not a coin show per se, but our first International Stamp show in 30 years since Auckland 1990 has been downgraded to a National show thanks to our Socialist Prime Minister forcing a 14 day ban and self isolation on all travellers coming into NZ except Pacific Islands.
It means no overseas judges, competitors or visitors.

Princetane, I had thought that the virus wasn't such a big deal on your side of the equator. I've heard that the virus dies in the heat of the Summer (maybe that was bad information). Are you guys done with the Summer heat already?
PS: What I mean by heat is >25 degrees Celsius / >75 degrees fahrenheit

I was in New Zealand North Island last two weeks of February. We had 27C (80F) a couple of days while there. Came back to Canada Feb. 28 so I guess we made it back before everything became critical. It was minus 25C last night where I live.

Quote: I've heard that the virus dies in the heat of the Summer (maybe that was bad information) Correct that this is bad information. It is a new virus. Nobody knows how it responds to seasonal temperature changes. Also, consider that the virus lives and thrives inside us where the temperature is 96-99F (35.5-37 C).

Well, the Governor of Massachusetts just issued an order banning gatherings of more than 25 people at any event to run from March 17th until April 17th. Seeing as how the coin show I wanted to attend was scheduled for April 17-18, I don't think I need to worry about whether to attend or not anymore.

CDC just recommended cancelling all events with more than 50 people for the next 8 weeks. That should care care of almost all coin shows.
