On my return from the most recent Torex my girlfriend asked me if there are any women at these things. And the way she put it said a lot about her preconception as in "are there *any* women at Torex?
I said yes there were some but estimated that it was maybe about 5% of the total crowd and 2% of the vendors. Now I'm thinking about it and wondering whether that's true.
Thoughts?

There are about 1/4 of our membership of coin collectors who are female in our coin club. We do have a high end dealer who is female and does many shows and runs a coin shop. I think men spend far more money though.

Make this a thread under the CCF Family section as a poll, be more efficient that way and anonymous for those who'd rather be so.

I would recon at around four percent.
Some women are probably long suffering wives and girlfriends of males, and have just given in, and decided to share their man friend's coin collecting interests.
If you can't beat 'em, join 'em!

In my world, it's 50%. My wife told me I'd better say that.

5% and 2% seem about right as I recall from coin shows. Currently there are no women who regularly attend our coin club meetings. For a while we had one, and sometimes we have a visitor or the mother of one of our young members.
I don't know why.

There are a lot of female members on CCF . Almost everyday a new girl joins the forum . From past coin shows I see many women joining the crowds . All I can say is coin collecting is not only a mans hobby .

Interesting - I didn't mean the question as a slight against either gender. It's just sort of curious - what all does it say I wonder?

This was brought up some time ago somewhere. One of the replies was that women usually have what they say is far more important things to do than collect almost anything. In most families women raises the kids, do the shopping, take care of the entire house, etc. Seldom leaves time for any hobbies. However, many women have a hobby of things like sewing, cooking, etc. so again, collecting a pile of metal things seams like a waste of time and money. Probably most women are raised to think of what is important in life and collecting coins is just not brought up much. My wife came from a farm. She has even changed the oil in my car while I was at work. Collecting coins is just not important to her at all.

I can name a few female members on here alone. Actually, a great friend of mine is a collector of Seated quarters, and she's got a heckuva collection. Nice gal.

The men still outnumber them, but I see more women at coin shows now than I did in the past. Seems like more dealers are now a husband-wife team, a Mom & Pop if you will.
