Morgan Weight Variability - Coin Community Forum

bbates123 New Member United States 7 Posts	Posted 06/13/2023 08:41 am Hi, newbie to this hobby looking for some advice. I read somewhere that a Morgan should weigh 26.73 grams uncirculated. How much weight variance would you expect from a nice BU example. I have a BU 1879 S that weighs 26.77 grams so it's a bit heavier. Is this within an acceptable range? sel_69l Bedrock of the Community Australia 21788 Posts	Posted 08/24/2023 7:44 pm Although I am a fan of comparative ping tone testing against known genuine, (done safely), I doubt the pitch tone differences between two Genuine Morgans, one at the top of the Weight Tolerance range, and the other at the bottom of the range, would have a perceptible audible difference. Such a test is much more applicable for suspected fakes with questioned alloys, or manufacturing methods other than die struck. Report this Post to the Staff
