In the past 3 years my wife has brought home a 1916 (not a D), 1942, and 1944 Mercury dimes from the store where she works. About 10 years ago, my son got an entire roll of 1944 Mercury dimes from the roll dispenser at the store he worked at. I still have all of these. I love the mercs.

Quote: Australia was still on Pounds shillings and Pence, a friend of our family found a George 111 shilling of 1820 in change. Australia on £sd? Explains a lot!

I used to work as a cashier at a supermarket. One day a guy came in and handed me a handful of change to buy a six pack of Natty Lite beer. I could tell that it was silver as soon as he handed it to me. A bunch of silver quarters, and a very nice 1924 Peace dollar and a 1948 Franklin half. Plus one day I opened a roll of quarters and they were all 1964 or before. The best part is they let me buy coins from my drawer for the face value.

Best I've found in "legit" change is a 53 quarter in my Mother-in-law's "to be returned" rolls and a 64 dime in a coworkers change. My oldest roll hunting are a 1908D Barber dime and a 1920 Walker.

The oldest silver I've found in actual change is the 1942 Merc in my avatar. The oldest silver while roll hunting is a 1935 Merc.

The only silver coins I've ever found in change were a 1944 War Nickel and a 1962 dime. I've been going through my change since I was 8 and I still haven't found a silver quarter.

None. So far. I had saved over $350 worth of pocket change in a container from about 1995-2004, but recently searched and no silver. Since 2004, I havent really used cash much, but I am going to start more now.

1927 dime that I got from my bank teller when I cashed out a $98.85 coin machine receipt.
It was in such poor condition, he must not have noticed what it was!

In natural change, I think it was a 1944-P nickel that I got in change from my elementary school's cafeteria many moons ago. But from tellers and searching, an 1893 Barber quarter.
