Just wondering about these 2011 $5 poppy coin/ red foil. I was looking at ebay and I noticed these coins, one was buy it now for $35 from a user named "stampeter" and the other was "moostang7" and his was for auction and it's up to $197. And the one for auction has a for better term a batch number, don't know if that's what you'd call it sorry and the other hasn't so I was wondering if the $35 one is fake..anyone know anything about them? I too looked at this and thought something weird was going on. Basically there is two types. One is a limited edition with mintage of 1,111 if I remember correctly, whilst the other has a mintage of 15,000 (both these figures are off the top of my head so forgive me if theyre wrong).

i think they are right without checking, the 15k issue was $29.95 and the red stamp 1111 issue was $39.95, as far as I can find no more are at the mint, maybe a post office somewhere still has one?
i want the smaller issue but I'm afraid by the time I can afford one it will hit $230 or more

The Aus post near me still has a couple. Worth having a look at your local to save postage/markup on ebay. |

do they have a red stamp enworb? nah cannot commit to buy now, I just committed to some local buys which may include a gold medallion, fingers crossed :)

No they're black  otherwise they wouldnt still be sitting there. They would be for sale on my ebay asap. $40 purchase price immediately getting around $200 pretty nice return. I'm jealous of the people lucky enough t get them. |

Someone (used to) have too much money. A red foil version recently sold on ebay for seventeen hundred bucks! |

The coins are identical and yet one sells for about $35 and the other sells for $1700 . I am certain that I would not pay a $1665 premium on a coin because it is in different packaging  |

I suppose the main thing to remember is that these collectors are not collecting coins, they are collecting philatelic numismatic combinations.
As a beady-eyed collector of the same, I can understand the desire to fill a hole in an otherwise complete collection, although that particular price was insane. You get that with bidding wars. The seller must have been delighted. Half his luck! I reckon a bloked could stay pi**ed for at least half a day for that money.
I've been collecting German silver coin PNCs for a number of years. They started producing them in 1971. A given PNC is often available in a range of cancel stamps; places & dates. The rare ones often command a significant price premium.
Great to see that the Yarralumla cover here in Australia has settled to a relatively sensible price point recently. I hope they don't fall too much more though, or I might have to sell my spare one at a loss...
