I think there's a "collecting mentality," you either have it, or you don't. I also believe that having this mentality it would be rare to find a person just interested in one collectible. I started off about 55 years ago collecting stamps, and it's still my main preoccupation if you use amount spent as a measure. Coins of course though my collection is somewhat scattered. I used to have a pretty nice collection of Morgan dollars, but those were auctioned off to pay for my teaching credential about 25 years ago. To a lesser degree I also collect (or have collected) baseball cards, autographs, lithographs, and to my shame....Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh cards.

Besides coins (of course), I collect old books, matchbox cars, and Indian artifacts. I live in an area that was populated by American Indians for thousands of years, so it is not uncommon to find arrowheads and such just lying on the ground. I have a whole box full of these artifacts; in a way I've started my own museum . Below is one of my best arrowhead finds, from maybe 5 years back.

Collecting is addictive. Seems like as soon as you have two of something, it's a collection and you need more! Aside from coins, we dabble in all sorts of collectibles from antiques to baseball cards.

I used to hoard stuff when I was younger. Literally everything. I don't really want to mention them because they are a little embarrassing. Then I'll get bored of them and I won't look at them anymore, then my mum's going to throw them out. One thing I still have until now are my coins, half a can of them. Still locked in my drawer in Jakarta. Some coins in there had been withdrawn and no longer legal tender. I have an aunt and an uncle from my mother's side who used to collect when they were younger. They're quite busy now and they don't collect more. My aunt collected stamps, and my uncle has a collection of model aircraft. I have a small box of stamps that she gave me, but I never really have an interest in them. Aircraft are different though. I have an almost obsession with this one particular aeroplane. This was my last year's Christmas gift, the only Concorde in his collection. I might start my own little collection of Concorde in the future.

Hubby collects knives (a penchant for Damascus blades) and swords and we both mudlark on the Thames when we are in London and collect pottery pieces and clay pipe bowls and stems. We also collect dogs (4) and fowl (5 ducks, 4 roosters, 6 chickens and 2 turkeys). Oh, yeah, cats (15). Can you tell we live in the country?

Coins,Currency, Guns, Knives.. Some of my nicest coins have been mint state Morgans. If I would have now what I have had in the past.... Man, that thought is just depressing.

I have 3 kids, so I collect all the toys they like. The reason I do this is because If my parents would have done the same thing, We would be loaded!! If I go to ebay to buy a G1 Megatron mib it costs anywhere from $300 to $600.

My next main hobby, is collecting comics. I've been collecting since I was about 8 years old. In the past 4 years I have focused mostly on golden age. Haven't really been acquiring too much as of late because the comic book market, in my opinion, is so inflated right now. I'll still pick up a book here and there if I can find a good deal. This has also lead me into collecting old paperbacks (mostly from the early 40s, and also what some people may call smut. The raunchier the cover the better :) ), pulps from the 20s-40s, old magazines (I especially like the WWII time covers) and antiquarian books.
