Quote: However, I have an interest in wind-up phonographs.
Anything in particular? For a while I was interested in Edison cylinders.
My collections have varied over time. I used to actively collect US and foreign stamps, mostly because I was living overseas at the time. I still continue to keep them as I receive them, but there is no real plan for that "pile" as of yet.
When I was younger I used to try to hunt for fossils and interesting looking rocks, and even put together a collection of National Geographic Magazines from 1957-2006. I stopped doing that because hauling 10 standard size book boxes full of old magazines from place to place was difficult and I had no where to put them. I still held on to a few of the older ones (the oldest I have is Jan. 1906). The rest went to my friend's young son, who was really interested in history and was trying to dig for treasure in her basement.
I collect vintage beer glasses and mugs, arrow heads and have recently found interest in mid century refrigerators (I know, weird) and early 1900's electric fans. I'm currently restoring a 1948 Frigidaire by GM refrigerator.
My wife and I run a small side business of selling items that we acquire from storage auctions (yes like on TV) and other sources. We run across numerous cool items. We have many unique items that we have to trade out due to space limitations.
Aside from our newly started PM collection, we have a few old electric radios and signs.
I used to collect sport cards and star wars figures.
I collect old safes and bank boxes and modern metal bottle caps mostly small craft beers which go hand and hand. A few of the safes are completely covered with bottle caps that I stuck magnets too. I look like a total alcoholic even though I have never drank alcohol before. I just have friends that bring me them.
A robber would be totally confused with my place. All these safes and 80% just have crap in them of zero value. I just always had a thing for old mechanical things like locks and telephone dymanos.
Before coins I collected (and played) yugioh cards. I have a small accumulation of mineral rocks. I have a somewhat large but worthless collection of stamps. I collect coins, of course. I also collect dust on the furniture
My hobbies are numismatics Philatelic Bird keeper (2 from my avatar) 4 aquariums Play the piano

I collect dirt, usually on my shoes, then I bring it into my house and place it on display on the wife's just mopped floor or just vacuumed carpet. Sometimes I collect sawdust on my clothing which will go on display on the just cleaned sofa.
Besides this I have a small rock & mineral collection, mostly from my youth. I also have a fairly decent collection of Boy Scout patches and assorted memorabilia.
I have two other collecting passions besides coins. The first one is coin related; I collect elongated coins. I have them from around the world and as I travel I make sure to collect as many as I can find machines for. It is my dream to be rich enough to elongate a MS-63 or better 1909-S VDB LWC and not have it bother me. my other collecting passion is antique tools, specifically 19th century wood molding planes. I have around 35 to 40 of them.
Looks like I last posted in this thread back in 2012. Still collecting political pins but don't aggressively seek them out like coins so my collection is relatively modest. Here are a few of my better pieces.
I also collect Ohio Art Pottery including Roseville, Weller, Rookwood, and McCoy. This is probably the collection that I'm most passionate about after numismatics. Here is a more recent purchase, a hand-painted Rookwood Pottery vase. The only bad thing about pottery is that it takes up a lot of space and is much more easily damaged than coins.
I earn finishers medals (10K, 1/2 marathon, obstacle, duathlon, dragon boat racing, etc...) and now they sit on a door collection. Looking at getting a case. I also save all my race bibs in a binder.
