Chevy: I have this vision of you coming into the bank with a dolly to wheel out your 10 boxes of pennies, 10 of halves and so on. How in the world do you carry all this out of the bank without hurting your back and do you ever get some interesting glances (as if you had just robbed the bank)? lol

This is what I use when picking up more than 3 boxes, funny looks abound especially if the floor is tile- tile floor = click, click, click all the way out the door. HH Mark

Mycrob,

I use an shoping cart at Walmart or kroger store to buy them. In Walmart or kroger I use there bags to cover them up to make look like I am buying food or whatever when I leave the banks in those stores. I also use an suitcase with wheels to roll them around also. On other banks I go to where I dont freak the banks out. I sometimes go there an buy serval boxs maybe like two boxes of pennys or one box of nickels. In my town there live there are 10 banks on the main road down there. I hit every bank in about two hours before I am out of paper dollars.

On that big special ordor of 10 boxes of half dollars. The bank teller helped with an dolley and went outside an loaded them into my car. My bank teller told me I was first person she ever seen anybody buy that many halfs all at same time in over 10 years she worked there.

My dump banks with machice countors are inside an grocery stores and Walmart stores . I use an shoping cart and go talk with sercuty gaurd to tell him what I am doing to whatch me get to banks machices with no problems. Those gaurds are nice to me no problem. Most time those machices fill up and they need bank tellers to replace bags where I filled them up.

Main reason I try to buy in bulk like that is price of fuel it would cost to drive each day buying and selling coins. I try limit my self once or twice an week. At fuel cost 3 bucks per gallen it would kill you big time since an lot finds are not worth much in those banks boxs. Example 1 roll of silver 65 thru 69 halfs sold is one tank of gas for my car if I sold it. Thats why I try to bulk coins from banks to save on fuel cost.

Your right it does hurt my back sometimes to unload my car or going up stairs with it at home. I was in an car crash in 2000 and have back problems already. Those heavy boxs of coins almost blew out an tire on my car and caused my check air suspension light to come before. Those boxes of coins are heavy for sure.

I dont have an job as of this point becides looking at coins these days. It gives me something to do intill I find an job . I like it so much an maybe someday I would love to open up coin shop someday.

I learned from roll searching and building sets last year. The only way find stuff you need is buy stuff in bulk or spend years trying find it or spend lots money at coin shops I dont have. Its very hard build sets without going broke if you buy your stuff from ebay or coin shops . If ever sold it you would lose money I learned after I talked with coin dealers on buying and selling the stuff . My finds complete my sets and I will use as trader material or for ebay sales I to raise money on stuff I need to finish sets becides just buying at coin shops to build my collection of keeper sets not for sale. Thats the main reason I do heavy duty coin roll hunting.

Curious, what does the trucking company have to do with where the coins are rolled? I would think they would pick up all loose coin and take them to a central location to get counted and re-rolled in the Fed boxes. It is here that I believe someone is taking out all the silver in Dallas b/c I have gotten AT LEAST 20 boxes w/ nothing over the last 6 months or so. Very frustrating. And with silver on the up, many more people are getting into the hobby. I need to find banks w/ counters in Kroger and Wal-mart...that sounds so easy, dump coins, and get groceries all in one trip :)

Hi Thomas, Where I'm at the armoured services roll their own coin. That is why when I'm buying from one I make sure to be dumping into a different one.

Going through pennies right know and just pulled a very nice looking 1928 wheatie in F12 condition. I needed it for my collection. That is the oldest one I have found to date in searching, usually 40's and 50's. I had also gottten 5 rolls of nickels and they were all 2007D's.

Make that 2 1928 wheaties. This one has some red to it but is more worn down. Can't wait to get through the rest.

Yesterday I went through 14 rolls of pennies 22 rolls of nickels and 14 rolls of dimes. Nothing in the dimes. I much prefer going through halves and nickels out of all of these. In the pennies I found just one '47 wheatie. But I did set aside all of the pre '82 copper. In the nickels I found several more pre '63 to go toward finishing my set. No wartime nickels though.

I found several rolls of new uncirculated nickels. I only kept two rolls ('04 & '05) the rest I returned to the bank today. I also kept two full rolls of nickels from the sixties and seventies. Figured I might offer them on ebay for anyone that might be trying to complete some sets.

I asked some questions over on the "cheap '64 Kennedy" thread but haven't gotten a reply yet. Probably not near the traffick there as ther is here. So I thought I'd re-ask my questions here. The other day I was in a local pawn shop. He had some circulated '64 Kennedy half dollars for $6 a piece. Is this a good deal? He also has some 40% halves that he would likely give me good deal on. Anyone have any suggestions on what I might consider paying on these? Same question goes for quarters and dimes. I might buy all he has just out of speculation. I'm just not real confident on what I should offer him. Any help here is greatly appreciated.

MS....

Besides the old Nickels, I also hold aside all 1968D I comes across. 91 million minted is alot, but compared to the other years in the post-64 era its not really all that much. Might be worth a premium one day might not. Can't hurt though you know.

Also look for clipped planchets...they seem to be more common in Nickels than in other series. I found one the other day, a nice AU 1992D with a nice chunk missing from the "Liberty". Other than that, the series is pretty easy to complete. If you got a good glass and the patience, look at the steps on Monticello. Any nickel with 6 steps is worth keeping, though the odds are not to promising--about one per-box.

Nickels are a fun series with Key/semi-key dates still in circulation. I found a 55S ( only 7.2 million of them or somthing) so keep your eyes open! They're out there

Oh I almost forgot! I opened a penny roll before I opened at work this morning and dumped it into the penny slot and I see what appears to be a dime. My OCD gets the best of me so I reach in to move it to the proper spot and notice that its not a dime at all....its a XF 1952 10 Rappen! It's the first Swiss coin I have yet find and let me tell you...its beautiful. Absolutely gorgous. Its got a nice bust of Miss Liberty on the obverse and a wreath on the reverse. Looks like the little brother of our own 19th century coins.

That's not a pic of my coin, just one of the same type. It's a copper-nickel clad with a B (Bern) mint mark on the reverse. I'm so thrilled with my find and so in love with this coin that I think I'm gonna set some money aside and try and pick up a few more of these and maybe build a set.

EDIT: Anyone else ever get a Swiss in circulation or is this one of those once-in-a-lifetime-freaky-deals?
