Hi Mark
I drop at a bank that will take them in rolls or I can use their free counter so I guess I'll give these a try....maybe I'll get lucky with some clipped coins or maybe even a one-sided one LOL :)

I went through a dozen nickel rolls obtained from a different branch and found some pleasant suprises:
1 1939 2 1940 1 1941 1 1945S (silver!)
Loads of 1959 and 1964

Picked up $1,000 in halves yesterday and went through $500 last night, found nothing, zip, nodda, zero, squat. Not a UNC worth keeping, no 2001-P or newer, no silver and that is the first time. I will try the 2nd $500 this weekend. Jim

I have opened about 4 rolls of the 1996p halves box I got from the bank and most of them have a die crack obverse from edge of coin between 1 and 9 of date to the initials at the base of Kennedy's neck. It runs right along the raised edge of his neck. Some are more pronounced than others. Is this something worth looking into further or am I just spinning my wheels and should I just go ahead and keep opening these rolls?

I went through $100 in half dollars today. All ten rolls had been marked on the outside wrapper with a black X made by a sharpie marker. Needless to say I didn't hold out much hope for these. My hunch was right, nothing of interest was found. The reason I searched them all anyway is I found my 1976S in a similarly marked roll from a previous search. I guess not all of us are looking for the same things.
I checked with a friend of mine at my bank today. She had been keeping an eye out for any unusual coins but didn't have anything of interest. I inquired about ordering a box of Ikes and she said she'd look into it for me. This will be very interesting if it comes through. I'll keep you all abreast on how it turns out.
Has anyone else successfully ordered and received a box of Eisenhowers before?
Rolls of halves searched to date - $360 Finds: 40% - 10 90% - 0 Bens - 0 Walkers - 0 1976S - 1 1 full roll 1998 BU

I have a call in to my bank about Ike dollars and they are looking into it. The FED's web site says they still can be ordered, but based on availability. I hadn't seen them in the bank in years, and then this past week, two branches where I got half dollars asked me if I wanted any dollars. I asked "large or small ones, and they both said large ones. A full roll at one branch and $10 at the other. But they were nothing special- pretty heavily circulated IKEs. Thomas: do you know where your halves are coming from? Mine came from Dallas area and I'm almost through my first box of $500 and they are the absolute pits. Hardly anything before 1974 (very surprising, because 71D is usualy in every roll practically.) These are mostly 90s and the condition is terrible, I can hardly keep or upgrade anything. I have one more $500 box, but it is dated and stamped from the same place CWI#88 June 2006. So they've been sitting for almost two years in a vault somewhere. But I am certain I will be skunked.

I just did my first $1000 in bank-wrapped halves, from Dallas area, wrapped in June 2006 CWI #88 and I got SKUNKED. No silver, no proofs, no 2002-present NOTHING. The only uncirculated coins in the entire batch of 2000 coins were 1996P and 2000D, both of which were present about 60 times apiece. Vwery strange. Also didn't really see the usual high % of 71-76- very skewed to the 90s. Never again with the Fed boxes, unless I can get them from somewhere other than Dallas. I think you half hunters in the Dallas area got all the silver out more than 1 year ago and it is dry.

Well searched $600 worth and only pulled out 1 64 and 1 67. Also put up 3 2001Ds and 2 2001Ps. Everything else was crap. Still have another box of $500 to search. See how it goes.

mycrob....my first few boxes had the stamps on them, but I haven't noticed any special markings lately on my boxes. I gave up...I haven't found ANY silver in at least 20 boxes so I gave up. I just traded for the few hole fillers I needed, and I'm moving onto dimes. I think someone new works where they are rolled and removes the silver OR the machine used to do it is new and rejects any SILVER. In any case, I've given up. :(

Mycrob,
In houston cwi 69 you can find silver those. I bought 12 boxes down here. 5 of them were fedboxs with no cwi or dates on them. They all had silver coins in them. The other 7 boxs per old boxs from Loomis trucking company . They were not sealed and lots of them were hand wraped. In my boxes I did find tons 2000 and 1996 philly or tons shiny brand new old coins in them. One non fedbox I found an brand new 2007 proof coin. They wraped in 2007 I guess and no silver in them.
My advice to you is dont give up on those fedboxs . I would reordor more and maybe try an another bank to try. I am planing to special ordor 6 more boxes from secord bank I never bought from to see what I get.
One problem I see you bought two boxes at same time. If did that with those 7 junk loomis boxes each time I would go nuts. I forced loomis to reordor them from fed since they ran out of coins. Those first 7 boxes were nothing for me intill I opened up those non dated cwi boxes from feds they all had silver in them.
You may ask your bank on what trucking company they use to buy there money. The trick is where you can send junk back to another trucking company where you dont get more junk boxes from same trucking company.
So dont give up intill you do maybe 10 or more boxes on those since someday soon you will find those silver coins like I did after those 7 nothing boxes in an roll.

My two Fed boxes of halves were from Loomis armored car company, who trucked it from Dallas area. It sounds like Loomis is to be avoided. I may try again later in the year with fed boxes. I'd like to open up another bank account or two and try different banks for their customer-wrapped first and then after those dry up, order a fed box or two from a different bank. My thinking is that a different bank should order from a different place. Hopefully it won't be Loomis again. UGH! Thanks for the advice Chevy!
