I got a 1974D Double-Die Obv. JFK Half Dollar the other day, in just the third roll of halves I had ever searched! I hope to get some more rolls today.

It could be. Starting in 1992, the half dollar proofs minted in San Francisco have been available in both clad and silver.

I also got a 1985 P that looks like it is gold. Someone prolly painted it, but it still looks cool. It is my new lucky coin :)

As to the above post, how would I make that determination?

nod2003- look at the rim of the coin and see if it has a copper color to it or if it is multi colored at all. also I believe that a silver ½ dollar weighs in at 12. grams while I know the copper alloy one is 11.3g. I have a few 1966-69 halves and the rims have a slight greenish tint to them so you may want to ask a dealer or check a scale

So far this week I've gotten a dateless Buffalo nickel, my first War Nickel (I've sorted $300-$400 in nickels in the past few months), a proof nickel (1996 S), and a silver Roosie. Also a lot more counterstamped LMCs than usual... There are definitely some "coin jars" being dumped these days. Too bad the banks never have any half dollars when I stop by...

I have a fun story of CRH, of sorts, today. I stopped by the local Goodwill thrift store to kill some time before going back to work. Of all of the Goodwill shops around this one is the worst, merchandise-wise. Slim pickin's.

As a side note, I saw a guy pick up a framed signed poster of David Copperfield from when he "made" the Statue of Liberty "disappear" from the same shop about a year ago fpr $10. He later sold it on ebay for $150.00.

I was about to walk out when I walked by the glass counter in the middle of the store. Out of the corner of my eye I noticed an odd shaped picture frame with money (bills) taped behind the glass. I swung around and took a better look.

There was 25,00 in Euros, 110 in Russian rubles and a 5 Malaysian ringgits bill (a current value of $45.10). The price tags was $5.00! I just had a $5 in my pocket since it was just after lunch. My gf thought I was crazy. I told her once we got in the car I'd explain. The cashier gave me a really funny look. I think he picked up on that I found something of interest.

All told, I swapped my $5 bill for some neat foreign currency. I haven't been back to Europe since 2005. With the dollar in the toilet, I won't be going back tomorrow, but I do have a few Euros to get a some pomme frites, a Belgian beer and some chocolate in Brugges next time!!

I've never seen the new rubles nor have I ever seen the ringgits before. Maybe I'll start collecting foreign bills. They'll all be worth more than the US dollar in a couple years, so I'll really make out like a bandit. :0)
