I totally agree on the dubious overall QC on these coins. I sent one set back and received a status update today. One replacement set on backorder - expected to ship 23 August. So at least at this point, they are doing replacement in lieu of refunding if you request that(in theory). I hope I don't get someone else's returned set!!

It really is a shame that they seem to have done such a poor job. Generally the reviews of quality have not been good from individuals and even the big boys. You know its going to be rough when they feel the need to say theyre getting fewer than expected. To me that would imply its significantly fewer since they felt the need to say something.

For those interested heres the email I got

Quote:
Dear ModernCoinMart Customer,

We regret to inform you that there will be a considerable delay in us getting the PCGS graded two coin San Francisco Silver Eagle sets. It could be another three weeks before we begin selling them and the quantity available will be much lower than we had anticipated. We believe they will be First Stikes but are not certain at this point.

As you know, our pre-order requests are just that, a simple 'request list" not a binding commitment on either side of the transaction. Since you were on the pre-order request list, we will offer you the sets first, but more than likely we will not be able to fulfill all requests. While the price is also yet to be determined, we will price competitively according to the market at the time we have them in hand.

We will be restocking the NGC ER/FR sets very soon at the then current market prices. We understand if you should decide to purchase PCGS sets elsewhere if you can find them sooner, and appreciate you patience should you decide to wait.

Many Thanks,

John Maben

I bought 2 sets and promptly returned them for a refund.
Scratches and dings and frost breaks all over the place.
There was a major scratch cluster on the obverse of one of the proof coins, between the sun rays.
When I pay $150.00 for $56.00 worth of silver.....I expect much better.
They should make the presentation box optional and lower the price for people who ONLY want the coins.
The feather detail on the reverse proofs was terrible.
I took out my 2 2011 reverse proofs (PCGS MS70's) and they have sharply struck, perfect feather details.

My read on the PR e-mail is that they are NOT sure how many FS labels they will end up with.

Remember the 150K sets and the backorder dates...

LLC set just went up in price by $50 (to $339) for the PCGS PF70FS (https://www.lccoins.com/index.php?d...otions.list)
I missed the boat.

Anyone know any other good source for graded PF70 set (doesn't need to be PCGS nor FS)?

MCM will have NGC soon, check silvertowne too. I get the feeling all the prices are about to go up as fewer than expected are making the cut

I called Silvertowne to confirm my order of two MS70 sets, and she told me there was a delay at PCGS in the shipping. All orders taken so far will be filled according to the lady from silvertowne.

If anyone wants a raw set, probably would grade MS69 I have one for sale or trade. I am interested in about any type of silver. PM me.

My 2 70 sets from Silvertowne are on route, due to arrive Monday VIA UPS

I returned 4 sets of the 2 coin sets because of Quality issues

I still have 2 sets coming from the last day of sales.

Pre ordered 4 sets of 70s from MCM still no email.

I got my set yesterday and I am happy. The proof is likely a 70 and the reverse is a 69 (it has a couple spots in the field that are not frosty but shiney) so I am happy. Happier than I was with the reverse last year.

WIF99,

Did you get the PCGS MS70 sets or the NGC? I ordered two PCGS on the August 4th and just called today.

Smokeidrdon,

My raw set is the same way, the proof is ms70, the RP has a tiny mark in the field making it illogical to submit.

TBK, I ordered two PCGS 70's and they shipped yesterday. . . so maybe they are shipping them out as they trickle in.
