Basebal21, were you emailed tracking info? I can't seem to find it on my receipt or on my account with them.

You could try and trade with them or you could send to it PCGS for their buy back or whatever. Id probably try and contact ST first. With all the quality complaints from this set I cant say I'm shocked that they wont even hold up well in a slab

As the month of ordering went by, I ordered 3 sets from the mint, figuring I should at least get one 70 set out of it. Then when 70s became available, I cancelled with the mint and thought the pre-graded would be a slam-dunk...yet another lesson to live and learn! Truly, a 70 is not a 70 is not a 70.

Its definitely unfortunate about the one you got. Its got to just be the overall quality of these coins that they just arent holding up. On the bright side from other comments you probably would have been even less pleased with the 3 sets

While I was disappointed with the quality of the proofs in the set I was consoled with the fact that the 70 sets will most likely be fewer and have a better price appreciation potential. MCM and Silvertowne helped ease my pain....

So I got my one set that I ordered from mint on 6/22 yesterday, coins both look very nice, the RP looks to have small imperfection on reverse, I wanted to get a another set from Silvertowne, I saw saw the 70 set and didnt order right away, the next day they were all sold out, so looked at LC coins and although they had 70 sets, they were $30 more then S.T. I ordered a set anyway. Today I find out money I needed to cover that set won't be available to me, so I look at canceling my LC order and see they went up in price another $50, so I call and the guy (kevin) was his name told me he would hold my order til next Fri. At the $289 price! How cool is that? I couldn't believe they would hold my order at the lower price for a week while I get more cash! LC coin very cool, very cool indeed!

Just a FYI... The coin show that features two loud guys and rimes with HALT had NGC 70 sets for $299 last night. Choice of two labels - SFO Bridge or a Mintmarky looking "S". I was shocked at their "reasonable" pricing. I have two sets at the graders or I would have bought one.. PG

TK that is really great of LC to do. I've always had very positive experiences with them and things like that continue to make them one of my favorite large dealers

Clint writes, " Truly, a 70 is not a 70 is not a 70. " I have been collecting for almost 50 years( since 1963 ), I have learned a tremendous amount of knowledge, One thing for sure, buy the coin, NOT the slab...... I wonder how many people buying " unseen slabs " will agree with the slabs labels, just saying......

Quote: I wonder how many people buying " unseen slabs " will agree with the slabs labels, just saying...... The overwhelming majority are just what they say they are especially 70s. That said people can store them wrong and damage them or something could have gotten on them at the mint that wont show up for a long time. But nothings perfect things will happen every now and then. Series that were plagued with quality issues from the start generally dont hold up well over time even in slabs though

So I opened 10 sets as I planned on grading some, also had a friend who opened 5 sets, and we were both appalled at the quality of these coins. Scratches, nicks, and cloudy reside on the proofs, marks, nicks, and shiny dots on the RPs. The Mint should be ashamed of the QC on these sets. Out of 30 coins total, I'd say 6 were worthy of grading and that's a stretch. Was told I could exchange them for replacement sets, but I'd go to the back of the line so probably wouldn't get them until October. Fortunately I see postings from other people indicating that their replacement sets have been shipped.
But it makes me wonder if down the line, if sealed First Strike eligible sets will be less desirable than sets from the 2nd batch shipped in Sept/Oct since people are figuring out the chances of damaged or flawed coins is pretty high? And will the Mint, after seeing all the returns, put more effort into QC when they make the next 100k? Doubt it. Also wonder if this will put a huge premium on 70 First Strike/Early Release sets?
