I ordered 1 set. Won't send it to be slabbed though. Appears to be 70 but it's always a crap shoot when you send them in.

For those of you submitting through PCGS are you actually taking
the eagles out of the capsules? I thought I read on their page that they only
want coins in flips..

I have never taken ASE's out of their capsules for submission to either grading company. NGC will return them (at no cost) if requested.

Less chance of surface abrasions on proofs especially...

Wif99, I too have been a mint customer since 1995 (2000 on the current website with order # 4,xxx,xxx) and I have to agree that the mint (probably mostly driven by PGBS) has lost the respect needed for me to care about their policies. Basically, what I was trying to say is that I am normally a rule oriented guy but I just cannot bring myself to care about the rules issued by a bunch of lying hypocrites. I do believe that PBGS has been horrible from day one. I think they way underbid to get the job and have been doing everything they can to turn a profit since, including ignoring long standing mint policies. First, they started shipping very valuable items without signature required (which they only corrected because of customer cry-out) then they totally ignored FIFO (another cost saving ploy). They still haven't figured out how to charge a CC when an order actually ships.

Bottom line: I totally understand and agree with your actions with respect to your returns. I wish I had reason to chastise you, but I don't. The mint, by allowing PBGS to run roughshod over us all, deserves precisely zero respect.

So I think I am finally done with this set, I ordered 1 set from mint coins look 69 maybe 70 on reg. proof. Then bought a pcgs FS marcanti 70 set at $293 shipped, from L.C. coin who held them at that price for me for a week, I posted how cool I thought that was earlier, but yesterday when I called them the guy who handles all online orders remembered me from the week before, and processed my order right after I called. Now today I just won a set of NGC 69's with E.R. Trolley label for $195 shipped, I feel like I got good deal on those 69's, beings I know those sets were going at least $199 plus $10 shipping if they even still have any left. So for $645 I have 1 nice raw set, a pcgs 70 set, and a NGC 69 set, now I'm broke lol!

I think they do say that on their page, but they dont really care. You can just send it in the OGP and 99 times out or 100 theyll send the OGP back with the coins too. I've never had any problem doing it that way

He got 8 70's total from the group

Sounds like the moral of the story is these sets arent worth taking a chance with PCGS

Just think of what that dude (or dudette) had to pay to grade 40 SETS of coins (FS)

...and them to get face slapped and get only 8 single 70's back

I can't even imagine. If you're going to send in 80 coins might as well send in 20 more for the bulk rate. That guy had to have spent over 10k total on these sets to get 8 70s

I actually dont really have a problem with anyone doing that personally. They arent shorting the mint, theyre returning exactly what they say they are. None of the sets cost a different price and the coins are just put together being random. Why should you have to return two sets if you dont like a coin in each set if you could just switch them and return 1 set and keep one?

Really if they didnt want that to happen they would mark them somehow from which set or just not put out any bad coins ect. But to me as long as 1 rp and 1 pf goes back like the set has then you really arent scamming anything. You really cant pick out 70s just coins that have a shot at it, so anything going back is something with a defect on it

Been lurking for a while as I'm new to the hobby but I wanted to chime in and say thanks to Mach1 for making this great thread and to all those who've contributed.

I ordered one set on the first day and am very pleased with it. Pretty sure my RP wouldn't have a chance at a 70 and don't really care. As a new collector I'm not interested in slabbed and find my first reverse proof spectacular. Spendy, yes, but still spectacular.

I have one more set coming, ordered on July 1. Not sure its eventual fate as I may give it as a gift. I will be cherry picking the best set and will keep the best specimen of each coin for myself.

Thanks again for encourageing participation in another potentially wallet crushing hobby.

Latest data from PCGS shows a doubling of the number of sets graded AND a reduction in the percentage of 70's

RP previously 33% 70's....now 29% ....low grade 65

PF previously was 33.5%...now 29.2%...low grade 67

Around 3500 sets graded
