Curious if anyone thinks like I do on this one . Have a crack at it , If better photos or anything is needed feel free to ask ... there is some minor scratches on the plastic holder. just so you all know .. Phil Edited for time and date that ill post the Full Slab Photo - Ill Post it up on Saturday May-5th around 2/3pm eastern time.. Good luck to all the guessers .. This one had me scratching my head since I'm new to grading myself , and gota good deal on it to so that added to the curiosity of grade opinions vs PCGS . Edited by tatt2ed13 05/04/2012 5:58 pm

I would Call it a MS63, but it probably went 64 cause it's so frosty.

I'll venture a guess at MS-64. The eagle has nice detail for a New Orleans mint. I think the obverse hub was worn which is why the hair above the ear is flat.

This totally depends on the color of the label in the holder. It's an MS62 by my standards, and if it's a green label it would probably be graded MS62. A slightly better than the usual Nawlins strike of that era. Remember, quality of strike typically does not factor into the grade. Only the wear or lack of and number of contact marks should be taken into account for a grade.

Sorry but strike DOES factor into the grade of Morgans. C'mon, you'll never get a MS64 and above grade with a FLAT STRIKE period. And if you do, try and sell that coin!

i dont think he ment it like that tho , but I cant speak for dave700x ..
I kinda understand what he is saying tho , with this coin . the strike isn't a playing factor due to the contact marks all over it .. But thats just my take on his reply .. doubt he would have said that if it was free of bag marks and had a weak strike .. but I honestly dono lol ..
thanks for the info tho .. now I know ..

I'm telling you strait, strike is 20% at least and more so on certain Morgans. You could have a coin with frosty luster, minimal bags, and if the ear is gone and there is no breast feathers all you will get is MS63.

Personally, I would grade it at MS63. However, I'd say PCGS probably gave this an MS64.
