First off, it's not an auction. Second off... *Yawn* Not a big deal. Just the ebay equivalent of something you've done probably thousands of times. "Hey, how much you want for that whooziegidget?"
"Oh, I don't know, make me an offer."It's nothing more or less than that. Nothing to get all excited about.

What is the coin, and is it really a known error?

What is the coin really worth?
Why would a 5 have been punched where the 8 is? If that really is even a 5 under the 8.
I guess he grabbed a 5 instead of an 8 and then after punching it, realized he grabbed the wrong digit?

He says it will be featured in the next issue CCN. Would it not make more sense to wait until the article is published and also have the coin certified before trying to sell it. And you would think he would toss in the shipping for free after handing over $1000000 : For a million dollars I would prefer to have a pile of 1912-14 gold $5 and $10 coins and some 1948 dollar coins in MS condition.

for those of you not familiar with Canadian coins before commenting you should do some research..look at the 1858 canadian dime.. there are 2 a normal and also 1858 8 over 5 hummmm .. so for the one member theres your answer it has happened before and documented. As for why its not graded ..Thats to easy.. until it is written about they will not slab it.just that easy.. as for value Why not ? does any one out there know what it would be worth if it is the only known one ? I think not.but there is an old addage that says.." An item is worth as much as one will pay for it " Lets see what all the nay sayers have to say if and when it is recorded in the Catalogue and then certified as such ? My hats off to the person for finding it and maybe ya'll should comment on the real phony error guys who list those pennies and such other non sence....and we all know who had that penny , hahaha...No not the same person ...

well I just got a hold of the seller.. He has a great answer as to why the value..Because he knows no one will pay that much..he done it so all other collectors could check theirs and maybe someone out there will have another ? pretty simple and a great way to find out and let others go on a hunt ? would be something if even 1 other was found..
As for the 1858 8 over 5 I beleive there are only a handful of these certified and in G4 grade it is worth 750.00 not bad for something with several others known....So if the dime is the only 1 ? what do you think its worth......
Oh and the shipping ...is an errror The person even offered to have the Lawyer hand deliver it ...

looks like everyone is hung up on the price instead of whats really at hand here....Are we all not collectors ? do we not all hope to find something very unique ? Do I hear a tone of jealousy in the forum ? common guys have some respect and get with the real issue ? If it were you who made this discovery would you like for everyone to see this and allow others to go on the hunt ?

Can't blame the guy for trying to get publicity for his find.Until another is found the coin is stuck in a sort of variety/oddity limbo, won't be recognized by collectors as anything desirable until another example is found from the same die.
