I grew up in Lake Geneva so now I know why I heard and used the term "fin" or "finski" for a $5.

How about 5 spot or 10 spot. I am not sure why "spot" is used to define currency. Does anyone have a answer to that one?

MacCoins,

Back in 1984, I was arrested in Lake Geneva. It appears I violated a couple of silly little laws called 'Open Container' and Controlled Substance.' The 'Controlled Substance' was a little bit of Mary Jane and the fine men from the Lake Jokeneva PD kept this for themselves and only charged me with open container. That was an expensive 90 dollar beer. The fine for the controlled substance would have been around 300 dollars. Those officers did me a big favor by keeping my herb.

As for '5 spot' or '10 spot' that may have come from:

"Can you spot me a ten?" "Can you spot me a five?"

This would make the bill a 'Spot.' See Spot get loaned. Loan Spot loan.

I was working in a bar in Lake Geneva in 1984, Hog and Kisses. I knew all the cops in LG back in the day. Great story,MDS! It definitely brings back memories. So, you must have made the 18 year old drinking age.

MacCoins,

I was amongst the last of the Baby Boomers. Born in 1960. My wife at the time was born in 1963 (still 20) so we went up there because she was too young for Chicago bars. Unfortunately, we never made it into a bar.

To keep my post on target with this thread:

I don't think I was being rude nor was I jumping down throats. And yes, I was already called out for repeating a post. Plus, after posting approximately 50 plus comments on this thread, I'm bound to make a mistake.

My apologies if I've made your throat soar.

Make two posts and call me in the morning.
