I suspect that the RCM entered an agreement with the BOC to refine and liquidate all the gold for a set price. The RCM saw an opportunity to heavily profit from these coins, rather than just melt and refine them. In the end, the BOC will get its agreed upon price, and then RCM makes a profit - I wonder where this one will show up in their financial reports? As numismatic sales or profit from the refinery?

At 3 pm today I was on the phone placing an order and I was told by my mint rep that the coins would be shipped out in late January.
All the sold coins needed to be encapsulated and placed in appropriate casing before being distributed.

Question...If for some reason all the 30,000 coins dont sell then does that mean the remaining unsold gold coins will be melted as well?

I imagine there will be elements of both. And perhaps elements we can't even imagine.

The more I learn, the more I realize that the Mint must be an incredibly complex operation. I thought about applying for a job there, but I'll bet there's a lot of frustration & headaches involved. (Actually, that sounds attractive)

I think if Mint wants to sell out, it will make the coins sold out anyway.

@darryldarryl
I think that all of the coins will sell.
It may take a while, but they will sell.

@coin chick,
I hope you get your order. Your collection is awesome already and I love the display. I'm way to parinoid to leave my coins in a display like that. There's lots of break ins in my neighborhood. As to addictive.... There should be a warning on the mints website. I had to quit all my other bad addictions to buy coins. Lol.

Hi Jerry_B,

Could you please advise why you pick up $5 coin of year 1912, since the minage of the 1913/1914 are much lower, and nearly all members here bought a 1914?

@jerry b,
The company I work for did some work at the mint. I wasn't part of the crew working there because I didn't pass the security check. They are VERY strict. I'm not a criminal and have never been convicted of any crime including as a young offender. In would be awesome to work there full time. But I love Toronto too much to move anyway.

man I'm pulling out my hair here, all day at work tomorrow I'll probably be contemplating if I should pick one up or not...

It's not a matter of price, look, or condition, I just find it really unique to actually own something with so much history.

Man, I like the view. Anyways, take a look at the packaging of the 6-coin set, premiums and non-premiums. It would be nice to grab one of those bags. :)
