To get this coin I lined up at the Vancouver RCM Boutique at 6:00 am and was the first in line....it was the only 1912 $10 gold available, I believe, and I guess I just lucked out...... but when I was standing there on a cold fall morning all by myself I have to admit I wondered if I was crazy or what!

Sounds amaizing, congrats! But...

...the excitement to get a rare coin, get it graded, and all these just for the resell plans?

Do not understand me incorrect. If you live by dealing with coins resell - understandable, different story. Otherwise - too much effort.
Why actually you will not leave these nice 2 pieces for yourself? Could be very attractive and rare subset.

@ silveroid...Ive got a collection of 1962 doublestruck nickels that were the first coins I collected in 1962...I would never part with them for any ammount of money..not that theyre worth that much. My collection over the years has ebbed and flowed with my economic tides...Im not attached to rare coins or any type of superfluous physical amenities.....I enjoy them for the time I have them and you can see by my ebay site that I've sold thousands of coins over the years and it gives me pleasure to let other collectors enjoy them for awhile as well...I found a 1902 silver USA dime in a garden plot I was digging years ago and I wouldnt sell that either. The first coin I fell in love with was a 1904 Indian Head penny I found within a book in an old abandoned house when I was 9 yrs old...i took it home but later brought it back because I felt guilty so I developed non attachment to coins from an early age....I consider myself a Collector/Dealer and get a THRILL from both pursuits.......

@CASSIDY77

I understand now what drives you....
Just wouldn't resist to own them, and would leave at least one of these coins in the collection.

GRRRRRRRRRR I am soooooo jealous! I really wish now that I had bought it when I had the chance... even if that meant borrowing a little for it... the worst part of it is that I got my income tax refund just after you sent it away! :( I guess I really wasn't meant to have that one. oh well, I'm sure i'll find it again some day... I wish you luck selling it.

i just did a revision of my listings and the coins are now in the stratosphere based on condition rarity factors I hadnt fully understood before.... namely that in the 1914 5.00 gold only 1 MS64 exists in ICCS and only 3 in NGC with none higher. There is a PCGS MS65 listed as part of a set......in the case of the 1912 10.00 gold in MS 64 only 6 exist in NGC with none higher and I dont know of any higher grades than that period ...So my 2 MS64 BOC gold coins are like silveroid says ....a rare subset of the series ...They may take a while to sell but thats a certainty...they will sell

im keeping a 10.00 1914 for the core collection ..i think the low gold price is keeping the prices down for the regular grades of BOC gold so I will probably buy more of them at the low prices they are now.....

1912 10.00 MS 64 gold coin has 10 listed in ICCS 2013 pop report with only 4 higher...2 in MS65 and 2 in MS66.. I havent been able to get the PCGS figures yet . in any case the MS64 grade is obviously very scarce in the key dates.

basic data of the release as follows::
Premium Hand-Selected 6-Coin Set (140 sets)
Premium Hand-Selected 1912, 1913 and 1914 $5 single gold coins
(291 coins)
Premium Hand-Selected 1913 and 1914 $10 single gold coins (4,869 coins)
Hand-Selected 1912, 1913 and 1914 $5 single gold coins (5,050 coins)
Hand-Selected 1912, 1913 and 1914 $10 single gold coins (18,950 coins)

Aden,
http://www.pcgs.com/pop/detail.aspx?c=4421

PCGS population has 65 MS-64 for 1914 $5 while NGC have 68 of them. altogether, I think it will be a hard time for you to sell your coin for over $10,000. HA auction sold a MS-64 1912 $10 for US$4250 after BP.
Nevertheless, I think you made a big score on those coins. Those grades are hard to comeby. I live in Vancouver and it will be nice if I could have the chance to look at those graded coins when you make a trip here. I have a 6-coin set that I could show you. I am contemplating hard to send some of my gold coins for grading.

@MJT..I seem to have misread the NGC report for the MS 64 and better 1912 $10.00 and 1914 $5.00 gold coins......the correct NGC figures are 1914 --BOC 68... earlier 3 & 1912 $10.00 BOC 6 ...earlier 6 MS & 3 SP ICCS has very few listed in their 2013 POP report and I quoted those figures......My Pricing is very flexible but I've found its better to start at the top and gauge the interest..Thanks for your valuable info......Based on the solo ICCS MS 64 1914 5.00 gold listed for 54,000.00 my coin is a great deal!.....

54 000$ for a 1914 5.00%? that's sounds rather crazy... I doubt it would ever sell at that price... I've seen one on kijiji same grade for 6000$ and as far as I know, it still haven't sold! if you look at past auctions on heritage auctions, they never seem to go for that much... at least not for MS64.... but since I am just starting, I still count myself in the category where I would be a rather easy one to rip off! lol

this listing of the 1914 BOC ICCS MS64 gold coin is unique so far ...it is the solo highest ICCS example of the date with none higher ....although I'm sure that sending your BOC 1914 to ICCS would be a bigger risk than any other agency as they have a tough reputation to uphold on Canadian coinage. Because of the special BOC label/ packaging offered by the grading agencies the original gold coins must be in their sealed foil containers to get this coveted labelling. This is why most of the gold coins end up going to either PCGS or NGC because they are seen as less strict on the grading of canadian coins...however this is a very debatable question..Ive sent lots of coins to ICCS and have been surprised by the high grades I've gotten at times but I've learned to be free of expectations when submitting coins to any grading agency.....
Ive reached my 250 post limit which allows me to blow my own horn about my coin selling business activities..if you want to see my ebay listings I'm  on ebay since 2000 with a 100% rating top rated power seller status ....with over 2000 points...my listing name is ....mirrortree and I'm located in BC Canada..I sell a wide variety of coins ..mostly Canadian... but I specialize in USA Indian Head cents and ancient Celtic coins and Canada Large Cents and five cents and of course some NCLT issues like Superman.......

LOL Cassidy! it didn't take long past your 250 post to start the advertising! :P congrats btw! ;-)

As for the 1914 coin, It is the exact same one that we are talking about... it WAS for sale at 6000$, but now I can see that it is for sale for a lot more!! you are saying you've seen it for 54K and I totally believe you, but it seems like they are asking over 35K on kijiji/ebay. weird... you'd think if it didn't sell at 6K, why jack the price so much?

looking at this one though, I'm soooooo tempted to send my 1914 5$ premium hand selected for grading... I'm pretty sure that it would reach MS-64... I may be totally out the launch, but still...

I had a PHS 1914 5.00 gold which I sold for 1200USD....quite a while ago.....looking back on it I think that was a total giveaway but getting the coin graded is always a risk..The so called Premium HS coins are often worse than the HS coin so you better be really sure about your chances or youll ruin your coin..Its way more value with the PHS gold foils and big box rather than a regular slabbed MS 63..when I sent my 1912 10.00 gold to NGC I pretty much knew it was a nice 64 coin and I've had a ton of experience with grading to top standards over the years but its always a crap shoot when it comes to grading as I already have stated.....

i haven't seen any 1912 PSH yet, so I wouldn't be able to tell, as for the 1913, the coinshoppe has one for sale at 1349.99, and the 1914 there is one on ebay for around 3000$.... that seems a bit high to me, but never know. I bought mine for not quite 1800 a while back... and I'm pretty sure I could get MS-64 on it... I just wish I could show it to someone who is decent at grading... just to get a second opinion on whether I should send it in or not...
