should be in demand but the prices are pretty unpredictable on ebay.....Its looking like the original packaging is increasingly more attractive to many buyers but your ICCS graded gold would be sought after I should think.....i would think you would recoup your investment but some have lost money recently....

I was considering buying one. Asking price is $1300. Good or bad deal?

@redsapsid...is it a PHS with wooden box and cert? Once it's in a ICCS flip, there's no telling if it was a HS or PHS.....for a certified MS 63, $1300 is a very fair price. My 1999 Charlton guide has a 1913 $10 in MS 63 at $5500....I think recent trends were closer to $3500, but we know those prices are unrealistic once the hoard was released.

I'll have to pass since the seller refuses to send me any pictures of the coin close up. Also, I've seen the same photos on a different by and sell site listed in another province. The seller claims to live in the same area as me but says they are too busy to meet up and insists on shipping the coin. This goes against my beliefs that a coin should be viewed in person before I even consider buying it, and also against my better judgement. Buyer beware. I never buy coins that are shipped unless they are from coin shops that I've personally been to. Besides, I just bought a new motorcycle so cash is tight.
I think I'd rather buy coins as they arrived from the MINT/BOC hoard anyhow. I find they look much nicer in the black box than I flimsy plastic holder.

@redzapsid..sorry I assumed you were selling for some reason...im pretty sure that ICCS does label the Hoard release coins with a special bank of canada release designation. Ex Bank of Canada is the ICCS hoard label description ....If it has that label then I think 1300.00 is a good deal

After doing a bit more research on the seller, I'm convinced it is a scam. I hate to hear of other people that fall for these deals. Common sense should tell you to walk away if it doesn't seem right. But the problem seems to be that common sense simply isn't common anymore. The seller is selling coins that are of heavily circulated condition, worn so badly that the detail is all but gone. They are being sold as graded ms-63 but clearly are not anywhere near that condition. I received a reply from the seller saying the pictures in the ad are for illustration purposes and that the coin may be more worn but has also been graded ms-63. Again, my request to meet in person was denied, this time citing safety concerns as the reason. I suppose that as long as people fall for these deals, shady sellers will continue to sell them.... And make huge profits.

This might explain why some of the the $10 are getting a bit hard to find in the original package.

Anyone have info how many of these have been graded by ICCS and/or other services?

Looks like 1914 $5 is still the key. Has the value gone up? Any pop number from NGC and PCGS?

Btw, nice table from the future.

i had printed that same table, but I just noticed that yours also has the number of the hoard that were graded! nice addon! I really thought that more of those 5$ were graded... kinda surprised by the low numbers...

I've given up on the idea of getting mine graded... i'll keep them in original packaging... and focus on finding the 1912 10$ in its original package... and a REALLY nice wooden box would just make my day.

anyone decent with wood and has time on their hands to custom make one? :P

The 1914 5.00 may be the key lowest mintage overall date but you have to consider the fact that the 1912 $10 is the scarcest in the highest grades by far. It is also has the lowest BOC release number. If you are looking to build a highest grade set of MS 64 plus..... the 1912 $10 is the key to the series......NGC current census for 1912$10 reports ONLY 12 MS 64 :::: 2@ MS 65 and 3 in SP! only 10 MS 64 in ICCS as of my 1913 report and only 4 higher..PCGS ....figures required...1913 shows 441 in MS 64 and 1914 shows 615 in MS 64 for NGC only. So you can see the difference is astronomical in the 10.00 coins graded MS 64 or better.

But the rarity of high graded 1912 $10 is good for specific collector, only if he has the coin from this population, high graded coin.

While scarcity of 1914 $5 is general.
So, lets say, both are the "key", but 1914 $5 much more available to purchase.

lets just say that the 1912 $10 MS 64 or better is the scarcest grade/date type of the series and probably the hardest to find so far unless more of them get graded. I went ahead and sent my 1914 $10 to NGC because the holder was scuffed up ....i think it might get a MS 64 grade....but who knows....

I found someone on a buy and sell site that is listing what he calls the solo highest graded (by ICCS) 1914 $5 gold, graded ms-64. His asking price is $35,000. It doesn't look any better than 1 I have but I have never had any coins graded. I'm starting to wonder if I should, and just cash in.
