 I get nervous when they have these subscriptions that take over a year to complete and they add 'prices subject to change'. I'd rather they offer the whole set now or guarantee the prices because if they increase prices during a subscription, I will be very unhappy. We agree on one other thing, the Mint is doing many stupid things lately that are threatening to push collectors away from NCLT.

Prefer no free boxes at all. But available anytime as accessories. For reasonable (this is also questionable terminology) charge. Let's say $50 for big wooden box.
This way Mint will do a profit on the boxes, will avoid unexpected (actually expected) cancellations. And the flippers with their buyers also will be happy.
But at the bottom line collector or not will have opportunity to buy (and not to get) the boxes anytime.

Subscriptions are just a way to get people to buy coins that don't want. The box just makes it easier for them to sell subscriptions, they will never break it off as a separate product.

I got a email yesterday from the mint and they are now shipping the box with the 7Th coin... And they cancelled the shipping charge for the third coin... Unhappy!

If they are going to play games like this or allow their incompetence to shine they should at least ship the coins in a clam shell that way if you cancel the subscription you aren't stuck with a bunch of coins and no where to put them, because you know they are not going to send you the box if you cancel now. Really bad job Mint, F- for you.

For me it's not really a matter... If your first intention was to get the series, you still have the rest of your life once you get the box to look at it... But if you want a box for free and cancel once you get the box, maybe you're upset, but in my point of view you take a risk and you have to deal with it... My suggestion for the mint:
- Put a price on the box, example 50$; - The first coin you pay for the coin & the box and you receive both; - The last coin of the series, you have a credit of 50$ for the last coin;

Quote: maybe you're upset, but in my point of view you take a risk and you have to deal with it. That's malarkey. They don't show you the series before hand so you have to commit to a series blind, that's BS. They promises you a series box, but if you cancel at anytime, you risk not getting the box regardless of what they promise because they break their promises all the time. So now in my case I like the first coin but am not happy with the rest of the series. So if I cancel now I am stuck with a coin and no box or clam shell. I'm calling BS to the mint on this one. Now I'm forced to buy coin I don't want. Just send the coin in the clam shell.

Would you not still receive the box if you cancelled after the purchase of the coin they specify you have to buy to get the box? They may not ship until some later coin but if the 3rd coin was purchased (1/2 oz sub) or the 2nd coin was purchased (1 oz sub) you would still be entitled to receive and keep the box. If you were not willing to take the risk of purchasing coins you haven't seen and were concerned about having a container to store them, then the RCM does give you the option to buy individually. My belief is the delay of boxes has more to do with supplier issues than some conspiracy against flippers. The RCM should be better at delivering items in accordance with the way items are first advertised and in the sequence in which orders are received.

I think it's a supplier problem, because for another series, the Mint told me that the quality of the boxes they receive from the supplier was not good and they return back the boxes... So it cause delay when this happen... But maybe it's just an argument they receive from their boss at the mint to calm down the customer, how can we be sure they told us the truth...
And by the way, they are in a monopolistic situation at the mint, so we cannot turn our back to another company to buy the new coins, even the merchant have to deal with the mint...

^ I agree. They've had box issues in the past. I know the Group of Seven boxes had quality problems as well.

It has nothing to do with flipping the box. If you cancel the subscription after the first coin will they send you a box, or are you stuck with no holder for your coin?

the big point is the RCM is changing the terms of a contract, with a lame excuse of too many sales, if there was a quality issue with the box one can kind of understand. Which other subscription are they unilaterally change midway?

I hope a lot of subs get cancelled so the serious collectors can get their hands on it. This is a great deal 39.95 for a half ounce coin considering what the mint is charging for a lot of other half ounce silver. Shame on all of you for wanting to cancel after you collect the box. Not very fair to the mint. I'd say that's worse than a box delay because you're still gonna get the box. It's still very disappointing, but not enough to cancel.
