Some Canadian senior citizen that enjoy butterflies would like to buy this amazing work of art from the RCM, and knows that it will cost him CDN 150.00
Since he never heard of MC (and can not allow it to himself), and always thought that Canada Post deals with delivery or selling stamps and doesn't know about pre-sale...

Will he get the butterfly in the public release for 150.00+shipping? Or the the coin, that he might be bought was purchased by his neighbour "the flipper" (because he got 30 coins using multiple MC accounts)?
Will this lucky guy sell the butterfly to the senior citizen at the cost, or will sell on ebay to x****y for $250.00?

All above very cynic, but this is the way.
Nothing wrong in general to resale something at highest cost, but do not use your status in the way that will harm others...
Actually, this not so easy, not to blame anyone.

Life is unfair. Some Canadian senior citizen that enjoy butterflies could be enjoying ladybugs as well and expecting that amazing piece of art for $140.

@ silveroid, you make a good point and not everything is "fair". It's called capitalism.
More importantly, that senior citizen should be more concerned with the drug company that makes him pay through the nose for life saving drugs while they report billion dollar profits for their shareholders.
Or the banks that use his life savings to make billions and give him scraps for a return on his money they used to make it.
Life is full of inequalities.

Will agree with you, guys.

These just the pieces in the puzzled structure.
Since the coin collection with all it's sides close to us, we very sensitive to each related event.

Who reacted fast with the RCM notification of the "box with 7-th coin"? The resellers.
Who reacts fast with every sellout of the popular item - the buyers, by continuing to increase the price bubble.

On the bright side, according to the news Revenue Canada is going to start clamping down on tax evasion as its claiming its losing billions of dollars in revenue from it. Seeing as both CP and RCM are both crown corporations it will be easy for CRA to find out who is ordering several coins which will help them in their investigations.

I'm sure they have a lot bigger fish to fry than some coin flippers.
One person defrauding welfare would probably be more money lost to the government than 99% of coin flippers.

only the welfare system is a provincial loss while income tax loss is federal. While they likely do have bigger fish to fry, they have established a 1-800 tip line to identify all tax evasion fish. If you take 1 penny off each Canadian would be a rich person...the same theory goes for the "small time flippers". If you catch a few and that becomes higher profile that the flippers who are failing to file their income are getting caught, they it will encourage more to claim their earnings.

Does the RCM change increase their price after you make a purchase? -canuck1us on 2/25/13

I'm having a problem with the RCM and the O Canada 1/2 oz. series that perhaps this forum can give me some advice on.
I subscribed to the series on Jan 18, and very carefully reviewed the terms and conditions for the sale. Having ordered from the RCM for years I was aware that shipping charges to the US can be high and I tend to bundle coins to minimize shipping charges. I decided to purchase the series when they actually called out the shipping charges for each coin meaning that under the terms and conditions of the website this series qualified for special shipping rates. I was logged in with my account (includes shipping address) and in confirming the sale there was a pop up to make sure that I was agreeing to the terms of the subscription (price of coin and shipping cost per coin). I subscribed.

Coin 1 shipped with no additional charge because I had ordered other coins as well and it shipped with those coins at the standard US shipping rate.
Coin 2 was due to ship in February and while monitoring my credit card I noticed a charge for over $50 from the RCM, was only expecting a charge for over $40 ($39.95 + $2.99 CAD, then converted). I was told that shipping to US was $12.99. I pointed out the terms and conditions on the website and got no answer back. 2 weeks later the terms online where changed to say it was only for Canadian orders. I complained again and 1 month later the terms for shipping charges were completely removed.

So here is the problem. The subscription is a contract and the RCM has decided to change the fees for that contract for all foreign orders that are not MC members. The cost of shipping was a deciding factor in purchasing the subscription but now the RCM is adding $10 CAD per coin for up to 10 coins and $5 CAD for 1 coin (would be 11 coins if coin 3 had not shipped free due to box change).

What this means is that the RCM increased the price of the subscription with no notice. Customers were never informed of this change. Customers never gave approval to the RCM to charge at the higher rate so they are charging credit cards more than what they have received approval to charge. I have received written confirmation from the RCM Customer Solutions Center that they did in fact make a change after the fact, but that they utilized the terms and conditions of their website to do so. When challenged that those terms do not apply to existing contracts they stop answering. When asked if it was a mistake they say it was not a mistake, just a change.

I have contacted the Access to Information and Privacy officer at the RCM and requested copies of the original contract and any changes to it but only got a summary; no actual contract with terms and conditions.

I have contacted the Ontario Consumer Protection Ministry and filed a complaint but so far I am the first to file a complaint about this issue so it does not yet rise to an immediate enforcement level.

How do I get the mint to actually own up to the problem and abide by the terms of the contract? Canceling the subscription leaves me with a partial set and cardboard holders (and no I'm not waiting for the box to then cancel, I actually want the entire set).

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

@Adambur: can you not cancel at any time? I also ordered this set but never signed a contract. I think you are out of luck, I am sure they "reserve the rigth to change prices at any time". If I were you I would wait until the series is complete and buy it off someone on ebay or from a dealer.

I've briefly thought of canceling, but then I either have to buy it piece wise to get the missing coins and box, or I have to sell half a set in addition to finding the full set once its all released. And contract wise the subscription is a contract, it doesn't need to be signed in person to be valid, and the contract does have an escape clause which is what allows the cancellation. Price wise the terms and conditions do say they can change the prices on the web at any time for any reason. If you buy a coin at one price today and I try to buy it tomorrow there is no guarantee that it will be the same price. the thing it does not say is that they can change the prices of a previous order once its been accepted and that is what occurred here. Especially given that the terms gave express conditions that the pricing was set and would not change. I realize this won't be easy to get the RCM to see my side but changing the terms of a contract after the fact and charging more on a credit card then they have been approved to charge is not within the boundaries of their terms and conditions.

I should count the number of cards I have for these to make sure I have the right number of coins. I know I am missing July because I still don't have the case for it.
