Thought that this thread a few months back was fun. https://goccf.com/t/130831So here is another similar thread except this time its $500.    Hypothetical Situation: If you had up to $500 to spend on ONE Classic U.S. coin at current market prices which would you choose? Please notate what grade the coin would be and include a short explanation why you chose that coin. My choice would be the best Capped Bust quarter that I could find for the money, likely a nice XF-45 example for my slabbed type set that I'm assembling. It would be an circ cameo with original surfaces. |

Probably would be a half eagle. It is not represented in my collection of U.S. coins yet.
Nevertheless, if a nice piece of ancient Greek silver came along at an attractive price, I would need to investigate.
The investigation would be needed to confirm authenticity, provenance and grade. An 'attractive' price implies the need for an intensive investigation as a matter of course, with ancient Greek silver.

1913 RD MS-65 LHC. I'm trying to put a set together between grades MS63-66. I'm now in the 1909-1930 block and if I had to spend it on one coin I'd choose that.
I have also got into medal collecting. I am working on a varied collection of 1909 Fulton-Hudson memorabilia (medals, postcards,stamps,pictures and other items) so if I could grab a good medal/so-called dollar in that price range that I needed I would do so.

That sum, if used wisely, will fund an MS65 DMPL Morgan. At least it would if I were the one spending it.  |

A quarter eagle of some sort, probably. Looking over at Numismedia, my best bet would've been either 1854-C in Fine or 1884 in XF; not sure if their "prices" are correct enough here though  (though there's a backup possibility of 1850-C). |

If I could get any coin I wanted for $500ish A 1913 s type 1 Buffalo nickel in uncirulated condition sounds good to me. I love Buffalo nickels and would love to have one. |

That would be a good down-payment on on any of the gold I want for my gold page; Indian Half Eagle (could be paid in full), Liberty & Indian Eagles, Liberty & St Gaudens Double Eagles. I would not spend it all on the Type III Indian Dollar.

I am on the hunt for some elusive 3 cent nickels. I prefer circulated between, VF to XF (or low AU) with a strong strike on the III. That $500 would get me at least one, possibly two...
