If real, the value is in the $5,000-$6,000 range if indeed AU. If XF $2,500-$3,000. Approx. values. The sellers would know this.

Quote: I'm guessing that was not targeted at you as the person who potentially stole this. I understand and I'm not offended. I just hate dishonest people. I'm a stickler for honesty, maybe a little TOO honest at times. Give you an example. I frequent a local flea market and there is a guy who had a little case of silver coins. A bunch of mixed coins some of which were around 30ish morgan and Peace dollars. He was selling them at $30 a piece. I had looked through that pile twice and the third time something caught my eye. The guy said that there were no new coins but I insisted on looking at them again. So in the process I find one with the date 1 8 (something) 5... I used the guys lupe to see if it was an 8 or 9. It was hard to tell because the outer rim was pretty worn. Turned out to be a "9" 1895 O in what looked to be possibly AG or G condition. So then I thought to myself do I tell him, or do I give him the thirty dollars? So what did I do? I told him to put it aside because it's worth more than thirty, turns out potentially between one hundred to two hundred dollars. I figured I could score some karma points, plus I'm not about ripping anyone off. Quote: I apologize It's all good. I didn't take it personally... I just know there are too many shady people and it's sad. I may be looking at this coin on my cellphone, but my cell has a 5" screen and it's not lacking much. Nothing looks amiss to me, and the opinion of the man who offered a VAM attribution is to be trusted. [quote]We don't often get to see introductions like this, here. More often, it's our lot to explain to our new members why they should be so disappointed. I don't think this is such a case.[quote] I guess that I should be happy cause it sounds like the consensus is it's looking legit.. I'm here to listen to everyone and learn as much as I can.

Also where on the VAM site posted earlier does it refer to look for that DIE MARK that was apparently left?

I am not sure if it is genuine or not. The coin looks good but if it is a fake it is very convincing. Just wondering if there is actually a die crack running from the denticles to the E in America because something about it just seems a bit off. This article should help in authenticating it. The coin should be graded by one of the major TPG's and if genuine, would probably grade around a AU.

Im sorry I've bene through this thread twice and cant find what you said you payed for it.. also, I hope someone tried the magnet test and weighed it. I never buy a silver coin with out doing the magnet test. Saved me twice. I hope its real tho. Beautiful coin.

I don't see anything that would scream fake honestly.. just because it's a raw key date doesn't mean one should assume it's fake

There seems to be a crack in that general area on the reverse in my first post if that is what your referring to. Quote: This article should help in authenticating it. I'm looking at it and it's kinda confusing me a bit. I'll eventually figure it out. Where in that article does it mention the die crack running from the denticles to the E in America? I guess I'm not seeing it. Quote: Im sorry I've bene through this thread twice and cant find what you said you payed for it.. also, I hope someone tried the magnet test and weighed it. Magnet test was done. The coin guy I brought with me didn't take his scale. I told him to but I guess he was pretty confident in his ability. He told me.. "If this is gonna be a good fake then it will hold all the properties a real one has. It will be silver, weigh what it should way and be the diameter that it should be" I thought that was pretty ballsy but put my faith in his ability. I don't have a great scale, just some el cheepo one I picked up a week or so ago... I used that to weigh it when I got home. It weighs .95 ounces

Well they are supposed to weigh 26.73 so if your scale rounded up ( some cheap ones do that ) then it could be correct

Honestly I would send it in to be graded as soon as possible if I were you.

This is definitely a coin that needs to be sent to a top TPG.

Quote: I was told that it was acquired from a relative and they did not wanna mess with sending it out to companies. Do you know how it was acquired from the relative? Quote: Story sounds kinda all over the place right? Yes, it does. If someone offered me a coin as valuable as this with that story I definitely would not buy it without talking to the relative it was acquired from first. Ed ANA LM-3175
