Did anyone order the 5oz?

I also grabbed one. Like someone else said, it will be a nice addition to the fractional set.

I'm not a dealer so I'm not 100% sure but I think dealers must maintain the Mint price until the mint sells out of the coin. I may have miss understood this. Either way price fixing happens everyday. Just ask any electronics retailer. Companies like Sony don't allow discounting and force retailers to maintain a certain price point (suggested retail price) to keep up the brand. If you do you own thing you don't get to buy from Sony any more. Just ask Costco, most electronics you buy there are grey market.

That is certainly not the case with Gatewest Coins. During the first day of public sales, the 5 coin penny set was available at list price only during the middle of the night with phone calls only. As soon as they opened in the morning, the price doubled.
For the bumblebee coin, they raised the price several times during the first day. And the Mint for always say "awaiting stock" for those coins. Not "sold out".
As for Costco, electonics are not grey market. They get a special deal with the manufacturers where the model number has an extra number to it. Like the regular model is LG 5500 and Costco's model is LG 5500C.

@Coin_Chick:
The last 5oz didn't sell well and was overpriced over the the already overpriced 5oz line. The pull back in price is likely a response to the poor sales numbers

@MoneyPenney

Watch CNBC's "The Costco Craze," They don't always buy from the manufacture because of their discount prices. They will often sell year old models at a significant discount and purchase them through dealers or wholesalers.

Many manufactures fiercely protect their brands. Companies like Apple, Nike and Sony don't allow discounting on new product.

Sorry, off topic.

I am so sick of hearing about this if people want to sell coins so be who is anyone here to tell people what they can sell and not sell, coins are commodities why should retail dealers be the only ones allowed to profit.

I have no issues with this. I do feel sad when a novice collector can't get a coin at issue price, because someone is sitting on 50+ coins waiting for the price to rise. But, as a part-time coin dealer, I pay taxes on my profits, do you?

Hi all, I have been lurking in this part of CCF for a very long time but usually I don't post.
First off, I would like to give some inputs, from my perspective , as a none-MC member that have missing out on a few good coin purchases such as dino, bumble bee, $5 gold, etc.

I join CCF to learn and gain valuable knowledge about coins. Part of the knowledge is in finding coins that are popular and or has the potential to gain in value or not depreciated too much.... part of that objective was satisfied by YOU, fellow CCF members.

Let me be clear about my view: As long as they (members with insight/knowledge) willing to and do share their insight/knowledge to fellow members, I don't mind they utilize their insight/knowledge to further their collection or even make money.

Considering this: People pay $$$ for insight/information for everything. We can't blame fellow CCF members for making a quick buck IF they are sharing their knowledge with fellow CCF members for FREE. Considering this is a privilege club where we have access to all the "extra" knowledge that others don't have (it's their loss for not joining/participating in CCF). SO:
a) If we are missing out because of our indecisiveness then that's our problem.
b) The MINT control the mintage/price/quantities limit, the buyers only exercise their right to the extend of the limit. Not everyone does that, but those did that have every right to do so. Note: Regarding those manipulate the limit or trying to circumvent the rule, they are WRONG and need to be PUNISH.
c) In the case of the sell out before the general public has a chance, it fall back to part b).
d) The MC members earned their privilege (by spending more money); we can do the same as the MC members, when we earn that priviledge.
e) Those collectors that are not part of CCF or not participate in this section of the forum DO miss out on valuable insight/knowledge and that's their problem. The price they pay for (higher secondary market price) is because they haven't do their diligent and/or find the right resource (such as CCF).

It's true that there are a few instant where people push the limit to the extreme and that should be dealt separately. CCF as a whole should not be divided; we are, as a whole is a family of collectors. It seemed like the Canada section of CCF tend to have more of this type of debate than other section. I have no intention and do not want to involve in any kind of personal/group attack. Peace & Cheers.

You have the right idea.. Taking what you want and selling the rest at issue price to fellow CCF members.
I applaud you. Now if only these topics were filled with this type of material instead of other bs.
