For those that have 1/2 oz O Canada subscription and want to cancel it, I think it is better to wait till you get the box. At least this way you can sell the coins with the box. Else you stuck with the first coin with no case. Well some of you have extra clamshell case....

I opened my purse wide enough to purchase the platinum coin. Not interested in any other coins, seems like they are not going to maintain value

Quote: That brings up an interesting question. Where is the line? There is no line. If you are buying and selling to generate income, the law is very plain and clear about that. There is no exception for "flipping coins" here: http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/tx/ndvdls/...txd-eng.htmlOf course, if you have generated thousands of dollars, unclaimed, there is a "clear-your-conscience" option: http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/gncy/nvstg...vdp-eng.htmlI should state that selling your collection, that is different - the intent is not to generate short-term income.

well I've canceled the 1/2 oz collection, and added the 1 oz collection....i like the 1 oz more, as my silver coin collection are mostly 1 oz, if I have known that the 1 oz was comming out I wouldn't of gotten the 1/2 oz collection...still the 1/2 oz is a real nice collection, but a rather have the 1 oz...the RCM is starting to become like the Perth Mint...with all kinds of collections comming out...its hard to follow sometimes....LOL

Koin Hunter People cancel it because they are only interested in the free box that comes with it. So they can sell it at a profit. It's called being cheap. If they didn't like the subscription, they shouldn't have bought it. But they for some reason decide to cancel after the free box gets delivered. Then they manage to sell off what they apparently "don't like" with a substantial premium to the box. It's all $$$ driven. Had nothing to do with collecting.
There are exceptions to the rule. But not usually.

OK so the mint releases a week after masters club. Roughly a week today. The post office called me today and said they order today. So does the post office have special privileges?

The post office is a dealer, so they can order early. That way they have the coins in stock the day they go on sale to the public.

But with regard to this set I feel like the Mint misled the public. How many 1/2oz set do you think they would have sold if they released the 1oz set at the same time. Not as many. Canceling the set in this case I believe has nothing to do with greed. I'm surprised you are not more upset at the mint releasing these coins now. This is an obvious cash grab. Who can afford to collect every coin? It's OK for the Mint to be greedy but not collectors?

Dooby Rak I agree with you that some people might have to make a choice as to either the 1/2 ounce or the 1 ounce. And that they prefer the latter, or that they will like the design better. Those are the people that will be cancelling now. Either before or after their first coin. Their are quite a few comments about waiting until they get their free product for flipping purpose. It's not because they are upset over another release because they will do the same thing. I was just answering why "some people" cancel.
I don't feel the mint was misleading. These are completely different sizes, designs, and quantities in a set. I have subscriptions for both and won't be cancelling. Yes it does get pricy and that's where people pick and choose. And fortunately for the true collectors there is a good timeline to cancel the first subscription before it gets started.

For the record, I did only order 1 subscription or the 1/2 oz O Canada and order it for the intention of keeping it and not flipping it. I am sorry that I don't have the money to buy both subscriptions and can only pick and choose which one I want. You can accuse me of greed and hoarding if they release both subscription at the same time and I decided to buy it just for the box. The fact is, they release this new subscription after I received the first coin of the 1/2 oz without the clamshell case. Also I do have the right to change my mind after purchasing it. If I cancel my subscription, does RCM take back the first coin (without the clamshell case) and refund me the money without all the hassle? I could either keep the Subscription that I have less interest and continue to pump money into it (instead of on other coins) or cancel it now and keep the coin without the clamshell case or try to sell it without the clamshell case (at perhaps a discount). I rather keep it for 2 more coins and get the box and sell it after. The chances of someone willing to buy 3 coins in a box is much better than a chance of someone buying a coin without a clamshell case on it own.
