Metzger22 Valued Member United States 127 Posts	Posted 02/12/2013 5:42 pm Hello everyone. I'm very much a novice when it comes to coin collecting. I had an older brother that passed away when I was five years old. He was much older than me. Anyway, I ended up with his Great Britain Penny collection. The earliest one is 1878 and there are probably about forty pieces with the latest being 1967. I would like to add to the collection and it has gotten me interested in collecting other coins. I would like to know if any of the current coins I have are of much value so if someone would be willing to inform me as to which years are most rare or of some value I would greatly appreciate it. Of the later big pennies, 1950 & 1951 are most valuable & 1953 is worth a little. Again only in EF+ Report this Post to the Staff

Look out for subsequent malnutrition of your wallet.... Welcome also to this forum, which as a newbie I have found a mine of information. Pre 1860 pennies are larger and heavier. It is worth getting hold of one just to compare. Pennies from 1860 to 1967 are all of a similar design. There are many small varieties in some years. Rare or valuable years to look for are 1864 1869 1871 1875H ( Heaton mintmark ) 1894 1950 1951. None of these will be particularly valuable. Two fabled years are 1933 - only 7 known, and 1954 - only 1 known. Report this Post to the Staff

I've been looking on ebay and I was thinking of placeing a bit on a lot of 100 GB pennies dating 1862 and later. It's at 20$ now. I thought it might be a good way to fill in some of the missing years that my brother hadn't collected. He was missing a lot from 1881 to 1901. Again, thanks for the information.
